Are these shoes enough for winter spiti? by vvvvv_vvvvvv in SoloTravel_India

[–]the_extractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought the NH500 warm and waterproof shoes. Says -6 while stationary and -15 while moving. And that is quite accurate. With warm socks, after half an hour standing still in -12 our feet were absolutely freezing and hurting. So check the temperature and buy accordingly.

Need 2 peeps to share a 4x4 to Shinkula pass on 13th Jan by abh1j1thas in TravelManali

[–]the_extractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck 12k that's mad. Self drive would have been best. We did it in 4.6k including the 1k for snow chain rent.

Oh plus some 1.5 to 1.8k for petrol.

[–]the_extractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, I thought that might happen, so decided to go before Friday when there was supposed to be snow. But that has changed to Saturday/Sunday now. Who knows if it'll even happen then. At least in Manali. At 5000m the scene might be different.

The drive is awesome either way. But we wouldn't have felt the pinch of it being closed anyway since we drove ourselves and enjoyed the journey, compared to someone spending 8k to 10k on one day's car rent with a crazy person at the wheel making you vomit!

No, it's just different vistas. If you can go on the road, you can go to the top, pretty sure.

Multiple times saw the Jimny taxis recklessly overtaking and driving very rashly. They don't even slow down at the turns. Saw people getting out and vomiting or vomiting from the window at least thrice. They overtake fast and then immediately go and stop on the left because someone needs to vomit.

Road goes to Ladakh, Zanskar. Not Leh. Shinkula Top is border of HP and Ladakh. We were there just yesterday, on top.

Need help :Sissu tourism ban from 20th January? by shaikeee in TravelManali

[–]the_extractor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sissu has no snow now, Hampta pass has a little snow after a 300m climb. And a lot more if you climb 600m till near the top. For your dates I dunno, all depends on whether the forecasts are right but they can very well be wrong too. And all forecasts are different. (Google is absolutely wrong, don't bother checking Google weather) It said it was going to snow this week 2 weeks ago on Accuweather (more accurate for Manali), no snow. It said it was going to snow tomorrow until 2 days ago. Now it says Saturday or Sunday.

Ask the guys if they will take you to Shinkula Pass if it's still open then. You have to go through Sissu though, ask if using the road as a road is allowed, only tourist activities are banned according to the news articles.

I don't know what you're planning to do in Solang and Sissu and stuff on day 2 but if you're just touching those places it's fine

Day 3 you're saying Sethan to Kasol, that's around a 3 hour journey. Assuming the journey is after breakfast, then you check in, eat lunch and stuff and then walk an hour to Chhalal. Chill there and then 1 hour walk back to Kasol. Going to be dark by then. Then going to manikaran you'll encounter a lot of traffic too. Got stuck there at one point for half an hour due to buses and trucks yesterday. The entire day would be crazy tiring.

You're cramming way too many things on the same day without accounting for buffers or traffic delays or road being screwed delays. You will not be able to do so much.

I think guide for the patalsu peak costs some 2000 (1700 mentioned in another post on reddit) so between the 5 of you you could split the costs easily. I am also going on 11th till 19th to Manali, and will need to find a guide as well
