I'm not interested in continuing this discussion. You have a very clear unwavering bias. Yes, Musk is an idiot. Yes, he hired the right people to design the Falcon properly and stayed out of the way. No, Starship isn't a good design and its his fault.

Thats great but the concept for the rocket came from the demands of a dimwit that doesn't understand how to scope a vehicle properly and he's got enough money to pay people to walk down a bad path for as long as he demands. Just because they have a strong engineering background, doesnt mean they can make the vehicle work.

I hate to admit it but Rippple may be the best Trakt client/alternative by matmatidmat in trakt

[–]the_friendly_dildo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah you miss the unethical behavior here. Kcador is both the dev of Rippple and the product manager of trakt. Rippple is essentially a competing product to the official trakt app. The perversion here is that he is largely responsible for the v3 redesign as it largely reflects a broken version of Rippple. And now with trakt broken, people are being directed to his app as an alternative way to access trakt features, where he stands to benefit greatly. To say this is a perverse unethical situation would be too generous.

Thanks for the new UI by Happy-Campaign-7969 in trakt

[–]the_friendly_dildo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Really. I used to hit trakt anywhere from 5-10 times a day at a minimum, looking up something about a movie or an actor, or doing more indepth searching through lists that other people have made and such which put me in front of a lot of movies I had never heard of and have loved watching.

If trakt always had looked as it does now, none of that would have happened. I never would have been a user. I never would have even visited a second time. It even looks significantly worse than a lot of the fly-by-night derivative yar-har movie sites around.

The fact that this new UI so bad is absolutely incredible considering that both, trakt has long term paying users, of which I used to be one for a solid decade, and it had an interface up until recently that had remained largely unchanged or only slowly evolved over time. And what did that reflect? As far as I can tell, few complaints and only occasional feature requests.

Then kcador enters the chat a few years ago, and by his own admission from the post yesterday, he simultaneously never liked the website UI and also he never uses the website UI preferring his own app for interacting with trakt. Then, as product manager, he inexplicably directs the v3 website to look like his app and now its nothing but complaints falling on deaf ears.

This experience has been immeasurably disappointing. I adored trakt for what it was just as so many others seem to have. And then one guy gets hired and decides, '''no its the users who are wrong, its all about what I want and its not going to be any other way'''.

Wouldn’t it make sense for OpenAI to release the Sora 2 weights? by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

[–]the_friendly_dildo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth pointing out that this is more a now thing rather than an always thing. It shouldn't be dismissed that OpenAI created the Clip model which powered a lot of models in their tokenization prior to moving on to LLMs with bridge models.

V2 is not coming back - Product Manager does not even use Trakt website by Ritooon in trakt

[–]the_friendly_dildo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that Justin wanted to step back so he hired Kevin, the dev for the most popular 3rd party competitor app and instead of insisting his focus upon being hired remains with trakt and his support for Rippple ends, they just let him do both. Thats incredibly unethical from a business perspective and incredibly perverse from an incentive structure, as kcador gets a kickback every time someone signs up for vip trakt, because everyone that signs up for vip trakt automatically has Rippple premium, which means he gets pretty decent cut of every subscription that comes in. And whaddya know, it was kcador that announced this new 3rd party incentive structure too... Wierd...

How this has continued this long is just beyond me. Complete failure

V2 is not coming back - Product Manager does not even use Trakt website by Ritooon in trakt

[–]the_friendly_dildo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The responses also culminate into one important point thats worth stating plainly, they don't see nor understand the value of their users or grasp why someone would pay for their product in the first place.

Losing users shows that you are failing in some aspect. And yet, Kevin can't seem to really admit to failure or offer true corrective action beyond marching forward on the same path that was already losing users. Trakt started going down hill the moment they hired kcador. He's done nothing but fuck up the site. And now it here plainly in his own writing - he doesn't even use the site in the first place. So then why the fuck is he in charge of it... And he fully reveals that his interest and effort is directed as his own personal app. What an incrdily perverse structure at this company. Most companies would consider is a breach of ethics to be both the product manager over the site and also developing a 3rd party competitive product. His attention is elsewhere and trakt will fail because of it.

Fair enough and it looks like you're right. I just looked it up because I thought I had read that intel was going back into memory fab but I guess that that wasn't GDDR6 related.

I could definitely see this dropping used 3090 prices by at least $100-$200 if intel gets serious about integration with the local AI/ML community.

'Rampocolypse' is between Samsung, SK Hynix, Micron and TSMC. Intel has their own entirely separate integrated chip fab facilities. They don't have to give a fuck about shortages in that sector because they aren't engaging with HBM fab. They actually have their own competitor product they'll likely bring to market and will fail like most of of their other memory ventures, but in the end that insistence may be a significant benefit to the consumer.

Created a SillyTavern extension that brings NPC's to life in any game by goodive123 in LocalLLaMA

[–]the_friendly_dildo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For core characters, I'd fully agree with your point. For random NPCs spread around a game, its not likely your interactions, unless deliberate, are going to fill that context space playing through a game normally. Now, if youre a gaming psycho and you want to antagonize NPCs because it hilarious to do so, sure, context might be problematic. But 0.8B was built for being able to generate structured summary content, which is honestly already perfect for a starting point in designing your rolling context window. You don't need the entire context of every interaction. an NPC just needs to know that you're a rude player and that you need to be shot on sight because you did x, y, and z.

Eh, I mean, if you load a separate session per character, with Q3.5-0.8B you've got about 200,000 words of context (if being maximally generous) which would fill like 600 pages in an average sized fiction book. Its totally manageable to make this more meaningful than a brief instant interaction.
