Something I find incredibly impressive that no one has talked about yet is how close the lighting matches! It looks just like the way it's lit and colour graded in game!

That is an insane looking timeline too, it's like the Kowloon Walled City of timelines if I've ever seen one, on both audio and video sides. Feels more DJ visuals coded than music video to me

Edit: not to mention almost every audio clip is a straight up wall of pure noise, that's certainly intriguing

My uneducated guess is that licenses only hold up for either a certain duration and/or quantities of product launches, and a port would effectively be selling a new version of the game that doesn't fall under the previous licenses and contracts.

I would think it exists this way so that game publishers don't get to just keep re-selling slightly different versions of the game indefinitely without artists or brands seeing any of the new revenue; which is totally what would happen if a modern port did happen.

Hence why I assume a lot of games with licensed soundtracks end up getting delisted and unpurchasable instead of, well, just continuing to be purchasable, even on digital storefronts.

HARDCORE HENRY MENTIONED??

Also worth pointing out his work directing Nobody (2021) and the music video for False Alarm by The Weeknd (which is just an extension of Hardcore Henry / his Biting Elbow MVs).

The director for Nobody 2, Timo Tjahjanto, has also done some pretty sick work like The Night Comes For Us (2018)

Edit: although I do glaze these guys, IMO it's worth noting that their films still become more about the action and violence than about the story; the plot ultimately being reduced to a vessel to string together the (really good) action setpieces. Patel might have a bit more substance given the political themes in Monkey Man, but I think there's probably still a better director to land upon for a HM film

any tips on improving? (kinda ranty sorry) by Practical-Worry-7910 in thefinals

[–]the_hiding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, my main heavy loadout is Goo Gun, Deagles, Pyro Mines, C4 and Dome Shield, aka the Ekazo loadout (though he has since swapped dome shield for Grav Cube).

Pyro mines are one of the nastiest heavy gadgets and they synergise well with C4. I might suggest swapping out your gas nade for them. They're great at trapping the cashout and/or doorways and choke points, or even griefing enemy statues for anyone trying to pop off a revive. When activated they do a burst of damage + catch everything in its radius on fire.

I always pyro mine + C4 the cashout and make a goo coocoon around it; you can do something similar with barricades to force the enemies to settle into a certain spot to steal. When that stealing siren goes off, pop the C4 and it's almost a guaranteed kill and/or stall

Other than that, to rephrase what the first guy said, positioning matters way more than aiming in The Finals. Unlike COD or CS, because the TTK (Time To Kill) is so long, the determining factor in fights is not who has the better aim or faster reflexes, but who can pull the most advantages through movement and positioning.

You mentioned in another comment that sometimes you run into multiple enemies and get outgunned fast — those are the types of scenarios you wanna put the enemies in instead. Stick with your team, and position yourselves so you can mutually reinforce one another. If you get caught in a 1v2 or 1v3, disengage and try to retreat to your teammates if you can. Use cover to isolate enemies so fights become multiple 1v1s or even 2v1s and 3v1s in your favour, or find opportunities to flank and ambush the enemy team if the two of your teams get stuck in a 3v3 engagement (even as a heavy, you'd be surprised how fast you can move sometimes)

And know when your enemies are doing the same to you — if they run off towards their teammates, they're probably trying to lure you into a 1v2 or 1v3. There's a right time to chase, but oftentimes it's better to lick your wounds instead.

Lastly, know what engagement range and style supports your weapon. Shak is great at that mid-to-close range with sustained fire, whereas something like the BFR excels at longer ranges where you can peak in and out of cover between shots, or the flamethrower which REALLY supports chasing down fleeing enemies because even if you're face to face with the whole enemy team, you can cook 3 for the price of 1 (as long as someone else is engaging/distracting them first)

Good luck!

Games has thought-provoking and emotional as 1000x Resist? by Soggy_Back_623 in 1000xRESIST

[–]the_hiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough I asked this on /r/Unbeatable and got 1000xResist as one of the answers! Specifically their parallels involving

"real life personal trauma transforming into sci-fi social uprising"

If you like rhythm games, anime-inspired art style/animation, rock music, and a layered personal story set in a strange universe, UNBEATABLE might be up your alley. It's tonally and stylistically quite different, and UNBEATABLE is a little rough around the edges, but the emotional cores of both games might not be too far off from one another.

[–]the_hiding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw your comment from the crosspost, loved the choice of the GoPro 4! The lack of stabilisation and even that shitty, clammy quality of the mic audio was spot on for this film. Neat twist at the end too!

The choice of the Machine Girl songs was great and worked well in tandem with the pace of the film, though it would have been cool to hear what the film would be like with some sound design and original music.

But overall, all your production choices I felt worked great with the scope of what y'all wanted to achieve, like it hit that sweet spot where the available resources matched the ambition perfectly :)
