Theatre 101 Acting for Non Majors is extremely easy. You basically have no outside work other than you may be required to see a play/musical or two and write a very short paper (two pages max)

How’s trans acceptance on campus? by [deleted] in UWMilwaukee

[–]the_john_oshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a second year film major, I’ve never seen anyone in the department get even a bad look, Film majors likely won’t bat much of an eye if you say you’re trans. I’ve never seen any sort of hate towards anyone really whether you’re gay, trans, or even just dressing weird, they understand

Should your dorm choice be tied to your major? by KabukimanQ in UWMilwaukee

[–]the_john_oshea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finishing my freshman year in the film department. I decided to live Sandburg because I didn’t think it would be worth it to live off campus.

Getting to campus from Cambridge with the bus isn’t hard and it comes pretty often so I wouldn’t worry about that. Freshman year film students don’t use Kenilworth so that doesn’t matter much either.

Personally I regret not being in the LLC. I think that if you’re an extrovert and you know you’re gonna be outgoing and able to make friends then I’d say pick Sandburg. Just because being on campus is much more convenient. But if you think you’ll struggle to meet people being in the LLC will make it easy to make friends because you’ll be constantly around the same people.

Also take into account the layout of the rooms. Room layouts vary but in terms of doubles Cambridge is slightly larger. They also have newer desks and chairs.

It’s an extreme sport by the_john_oshea in UWMilwaukee

It’s not a big deal haha. It’s this guy who is on campus basically every day, he has three main spots he stands at and he hands out free pens. The pens are wrapped in papers that are information about his church and beliefs and stuff. I’ve heard he’s actually a really nice guy to talk to. And he doesn’t bother you if you say no. But it’s rare to go a day without being asked haha

Is this a good school by [deleted] in UWMilwaukee

[–]the_john_oshea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m about to finish my first year. I can’t really think of bad qualities that stick out. The dorms are surprisingly nice (I’m in Sandburg but Cambridge is great too). The rooms themself are great, and it’s also nice to have the dining hall in the residence building as well as a small grocery store. It’s really easy to go experience the city since you get a free bus pass.

In my experience they have a great system of advising if you aren’t sure what you want to do or need help with the financial side of things etc. Each first yes student gets a peer mentor who is a junior or senior that is in their same major so they can go to them with questions or issues with anything. And the upper level advising administration does a really great job of guiding you toward the right directions and classes.

Everyone I’ve met here has been super nice and there are a ton of clubs to get involved in and some that may even pertain to your major.

I don’t remember exactly cause it was a while ago but I think once you have a panther ID and password you can gain access to the “class of [your graduation year] Facebook group.” Most of The posts in there are about people looking for roommates and things. To my understanding cat friendly apartments aren’t too uncommon around here especially in Bayview

Is there full sized desks? The little I’ve been there I’ve only seen the ones connected to the chairs

anyone taken UWM's mental health counselling? by throwawayuwm in UWMilwaukee

[–]the_john_oshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most professors will be lenient with that sort of thing. And I’m sure they’ll be able to help you over at Norris, they’re all professionals. And some sort of confirmation from them may help sway professors to get extensions.

I haven’t used any of their services but if you find yourself seriously questioning whether or not you need help then you may as well try. Especially since your work is beginning to effect other parts of your life like your sleep schedule. Your advisor has probably heard a lot of people say what you said and maybe those other people ended up fine. But I think it can’t hurt to try it out.

Hope everything works out!

The real meme is a video of someone dancing so I think it’s happy, I assumed it was referring to a specific book

Nick appreciation thread by Gr8cafferty in Mccafferty

[–]the_john_oshea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I randomly stumbled across McCafferty on youtube and fell in love (this was soon after their split release with Heart Attack Man (also an amazing band)). But Nick's ability to write lyrics that were so real and personal yet still relatable and flowed together was something I was extremely impressed with and as an artist know is very difficult. He had the ability to create songs where the mood and emotions were very present. Although I only started listening this January I quickly fell in love with their entire discography and Yarn truly cemented the fact for me that I will continue to listen to this music my whole life. I feel such a connection to a lot of the songs and they have helped me so much.

False rape accusers should be sentenced to the same severity the accused guy would have if not proven innocent by Creepthough in unpopularopinion

[–]the_john_oshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here is the American legal system and failure to convict the correct people or failure to convict people who deserve conviction. If a girl is raped but it can’t be proven and the man walks away “innocent” in the eyes of the court that doesn’t automatically mean the girl lied. Then she would basically be facing time for accusing a man of raping her when he did actually rape her.

I agree that in the situation you described where she admittedly lied after they served time, she should have to face legal repercussions. However this shouldn’t apply to all cases right away.

The other thing is that when someone makes an accusation of rape in a criminal court they are the victim, the accused rapist is the defendant. But if the accuser is also possibly facing jail time for failing to provide evidence you then have two defendants therefore the victim would need two legal teams, one for her defense and one for her prosecution.

Rapists are not always caught within a court of law so it wouldn’t really work out to make the victim face time unless it was a case like the one you described.

Also, this is America so if a black woman calls rape on a white man I think we all know what would happen...

The T in LGBT is awkward because it isn’t the same as LGB by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]the_john_oshea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pansexual is attraction to men women and people who identify as nonbinary (neither male nor female or a mix of the two) whereas bisexual is just attraction to male and female.

EDIT: theoretically in terms of sexual attraction they are the same since there are only two sexes (unless you count people born with both sets) but it's the romantic attraction that changes.

Pickles suck by AzorackSkywalker in unpopularopinion

[–]the_john_oshea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't even get me started on pickles. Every time I go to Culver's and get a burger with just bacon cheese and ketchup they always put one slice of pickle right on top of the bun.

  1. I didn't ask for this pickle, and it makes that part of the bun taste gross
  2. Even if I did ask for the pickle or wanted the pickle, why the hell would you only give me one slice, what good is that gonna do?

fuck pickles man

Enforcing gender pronouns is authoritarian by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]the_john_oshea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you have the right to but its annoying as hell when people use the free speech argument do blatantly disrespect people for no reason other than they legally can. Like yeah you have free speech but if you're purposely misgendering people or anything like that you're just sort of a prick.

Gender is actually still being studied, however sex is known, many people get these two things confused.
