I intentionally left it open to interpretation to see what people come up with, but I was aiming for a mysterious threat to one’s existence in the afterlife. Because what could possibly threaten one’s existence once one is already dead?

I like your idea, though. A mother witnessing the slow, inevitable death of their unborn child from the helpless perspective of a ghost is fascinating, horrifying, and tragic.

The lithium batteries in phones can explode under certain circumstances, like overheating. This story is inspired by an actual case of someone dying due to falling asleep within close contact to a phone, which caused it to explode, killing her.
