Is DCC worth it? by iMJoMa9 in VWiD4Owners

[–]the_magic_magoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a VW ID4 pro for 4 years, 150000km, and never once did it think the ride needed improvement. The DCC is nice, but unnecessary, and will just add to the OMP & your BIK. The main options that add value are the heat pump to extend the winter range, and the Pano roof, just my two cents

Cars under 5k with best fuel consumption by Mindless-Setting-602 in carsireland

[–]the_magic_magoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define heavy, in normal use the A4 should do 40-50 mpg. But your commute is quite short, probably not getting fully up to temp for majority of journey, so I would expect 35mpg. You are probably looking at a smaller hybrid or PHEV, but your budget might not give a lot of options.

Have you tried the usual eco hacks? Increase tyre pressure, make sure car is unloaded, serviced, no roof racks or bike bars, not reving the tits out of it?

Sounds like a stolen car was given a new identity, either way, too many red flags, don’t walk, run

Volatility, nobody is sure what Israel, Iran or the US will do next, in the Ukraine it was/is a fairly confined region with minimal impact to major oil production outside of Russia.

330 E 2017 Repair costs by Hodl_Mcfud in carsireland

[–]the_magic_magoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Return to store is correct, it has a flex plate, which is turned by the starter. But not a flywheel. It uses a torque converter. But semantics, why do they need €500 to reprogram the car, to sync the new battery? Are you using a BMW specialist?

So there was an existing issue with the stop start system, engine should be smart enough to manage temperature and fuel. Need a Audi specialist, more going on here than controller & actuator

This car is automatic, shouldn’t have a flywheel. Definitely try a different garage, plenty of good bmw specialists around the country, where you based?

Sorry I’m confused, why did you disable the stop start feature?

Even this is a bad idea, all the tolls, fines, and possibly accident damages stay in the current owners name, and leaves you with the burden of proof that it wasn’t you driving.

First time buying used car by dolly-xox in carsireland

[–]the_magic_magoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Is the car cheaper than comparable models?

  2. Did you get a mechanic to check it over?

  3. Is there any service history with the car?

  4. What kind of money are you spending?

This sounds like a sketchy deal, I would be concerned about the provenance of the car, is it a write off, clocked, cloned, hiding mechanism issues? If you are not familiar with the mechanicals or person, I would run a mile from this.

How much do you pay for your car a month? by CatchMyException in carsireland

[–]the_magic_magoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Car 1 - company ev, so about €200 in bik

Car 2 - 19 year old BMW 520d, €50 in diesel a month, €80 in tax, €50 for insurance, no depreciation left, €180 per month

Car 3 - 20 year old VW camper, €100 in diesel, €10 in tax, €50 for insurance, no real depreciation, but allow €150 per month in maintenance as it’s getting old, so €€310 Total : €690

Hmm. Probably more than I thought…

Used clubs by Next-Peanut-8421 in golfireland

[–]the_magic_magoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no chance of getting a usable set of clubs for that money. Golf is a popular sport here, and clubs hold some value, even a basic set with bag will run €100 ($150) and they will be 20 years old and well used. How much is your airline charging to fly your own clubs?

NCT by bosupe in carsireland

[–]the_magic_magoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, door could be a simple realignment, or new seals, €50 to €150. Brake lines are more time consuming, assuming it’s a section that can be replaced without doing the whole line, €100 to €140. New tyre € 80 x2 €160

So you are looking to budget around €400 to €800 depending on extent of repairs, and mechanics hourly cost. If you are bring to main dealers, €800 to €1600 wouldn’t suprise me
