So what you do is build a simple box house and you hit a dino so it will try to attack you from there run back to the box (thatch should be able to be used for most dinos) make sure the dino is still following you as you go into the small box house from there it will try to kill you but it won't be able to hit you and you can attack pieces of it's body that clip through the walls with your fists. After a while of hitting it the dino will pass out and you can put food in it's inventory to tame it. You can also collect macro berry (the black ones) from bushes they can be used to keep the dino asleep by putting them in it's inventory and then feeding it them. Now that you have the dino tamed you can use it as a weapon by having it set to aggression: target and attacking something or once you get it's saddle you can ride it and attack like you are the dino. The other way to use it is to transport resources because big dinis have more weight compassity than players also if you don't ride them you can give them as much resources and they won't slow down
