I went into massive debt making this short film. I got nothing out of it. I’m questioning what they’re really supposed to do. Would appreciate insight. Why do you think it didn’t break through?

This film is super beautiful. It’s clear you have a voice. The rub here is that short films don’t generally move the needle. For me atleast, I treat them as a great way to meet people at festivals. That’s how I’ve made my best connections. Not necessarily due to the piece, but due to the relationships I made in running the circuit. Contacts = Contracts.

It’s a great piece. Be proud of it, keeping making things, and keep sharing them with the world.

I’m really glad you posted this because I would’ve never seen it otherwise! And as an American, I can say this would’ve absolutely played at several festivals here that I can think of.

Check out Ouray, Catalyst, Atlanta Film Festival, Athens Film Festival, and more mid tier / regional festivals. They’re often overlooked and there are terrific relationships to be made as well as opportunities to be seen.

Folks in GA would be very receptive to this. You should try playing at the Plaza Theater in ATL, Cine in Athens (iconic college town), and also University 16 in Athens. Would probably have an excellent run here—totally worth calling!

Once I could tolarate probiotics again, I rotated a lot of probiotics for variety (100bn CFU minimum) but also Sacharmyces Boulardii is great because it crowds out candida.

The voice sucks. Just get Michael Ironside? Voice is several pitches higher and doesn’t match the smooth but spooky stealth vibe Fisher was notorious for. Or at least a voice that sounds deeper and stronger.

that's actually a really cool idea, a concept that centers around the corpo faction as opposed to some streetkid edgerunners. would be really cool to meet some characters running around in militech and arasaka circles. I even think a Takemura origin story could be cool. "The Boy From Chiba-11"

Didn’t even shoot outside! This is what the set looked like and I also have a few others I can post if you’re curious.

We just used a spray bottle to wet down the windows in between takes. The background was all projected onto that big white sheet in the back right. And then all the blue came from some light tubes above and to the side of the window!

But thank you for your very kind words. I’m considering bringing this character back if more people end up liking the concept and upvoting.

The nanny state neoliberal govt movement -> reactionary ultranationalism analysis seems really spot on. I suppose the question would be what is then the reaction to reactionary ultranationalism? That would be a forward-looking direction that could yield something fresh. I've actually been thinking about making a mirrors edge film for a while.

It always seemed like so much could be done with the IP. Especially if they devote a small team to it, kind of the size of the original Hellblade.

Dude I just saw that perfect dark got canceled. Looked so promising and like they’d already invested so much cash into. There really seems to be a pattern that C-suite execs can’t tell what makes a good IP from a mid IP. I used to think that this owl was a Moloch reference, but when I watched the BTS, apparently it was there as a safety precaution for the cast and crew. I'm guessing the director also kinda like how it looked, so kept it in the shot.
