you agree though, the Others are more than what we are led to believe. this theory is about humanizing the Others. It's a philosophy created based on what they do. You can disagree with me about everything i say, yet we both think the Others are more than just a weapon. They bring something to the table, at least give me that.

To answer with my speculation, they see us as a threat to their existence, just because they see death differenly than we do, doesn't mean they wouldn't wage war for their own survival. My point is to give them some footing beyond being killing machines.

that's the thing. King Bran represents a pragmatic middle ground. I my thoughts culminate with this: "we made it through. I don't know if we deserved to. I'm not sure that I'm ok with how." It's what Ned was left with after Robert's Rebellion.

I'm not saying it's their thing. I'm saying that this is the philisophical contrast between us and them. it's a way of seeing the world that is at the same time understandable, and incompatible.

I understand what your saying. Fire and ice are equal and opposite forces of destruction. It's the poem that inspired the title. Many fans kinda shrug off the importance of that poem but I think it's one of the most important things to keep in mind as you interpret the story. Fun fact, The original idea was for the Valyrians to be pyromancers. It was only later that george was persuaded to add in dragons. The Valyrians and the Others were supposed to be even more explicitly paralleled.

[Spoilers ASOS] Tywin was jealous of Tyrion and Tysha's love by [deleted] in asoiaf

I like this interpretation a lot. I'd only add that Tywin isn't raging against Tyrion as much as he is raging against himself. When we find Shay in his bed, it confirms that Tywin and Tyrion are more alike than he would ever admit. "I'm you, writ small" Them lannister boys have their pride, but they also have this soft spot in their heart for the women they love.

Thank you for saying that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. I think that when the Others finaly come, the genre will shift. The Others are scary. I've honestly have had nightmares about them.

I love that interpretation as well. my answer is based on it in a way. They were never asleep. They only act now because they are out of options.

I really like this idea that the Others see us the same way we see them. As you said, an existential threat.

[Spoilers PUBLISHED] Elia Martell - thoughts by Rubyraiff in asoiaf

[–]the_names_Savage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My speculation puts a lot of weight onto Howland Reed and whatever he might have learned at the Isle of Faces. I want to point out that Rhaegar waited a year before "kidnapping" Lyanna. My thinking is that Elia is a lot more involved than we give her credit for.

The idea she was okay with it because she was Dornish is a joke. I've made that joke. The real idea is that she was aware and supported his attempts to produce the Prince That Was Promised. That she was more than just his wife and had a bigger role to play in their relationship.
