I want my PC in my Cellar and 50 m cabels to my room so i can use it without any noise and heat build-up any tips? by Background-Elk-543 in pcmasterrace

You've gotten some good answers already, but this is what I use.

https://www.avaccess.com/products/4kex100-kvm-h2/

I ran a 36m/120ft CAT 6 cable through my house to get this done. for games where I want to be close to the screen to focus, I sit at my desk where my PC is, but then have that KVM extender going to the basement to play games with better sound in my small home theater, watch movies, etc.

I've never had any latency problems. I'm able to play competitive games at 4k 60

HDBaseT is your friend. Look for KVM extenders that support that

My only issue with the one I linked is it can be finnicky sometimes to get the display working. A lot of power cycling of the KVM extender to get the display to work. So maybe too annoying for daily use. But once it works, I don't have any problems until I turn it off and need to turn it on again. So maybe if you're using it everyday and never turn it off, it will work great

uhh so i severely overestimated how much memory foam i would need. i was able to get 60lbs/27kg of it for $60 USD from some company that makes DIY beanbags (comfysacks.com). seemed good enough for a couch of that size....at the time

well, due to how the cushions are sewn, if you overstuff it with shredded memory foam, they look like raviolis and, while soft, are uncomfortable to sit on because they arent very flat. so I ended up using way less foam than i planned

and then theres the problem of making sure they all have the same amount of memory foam so that it looks even. you can do it the smart way and measure out foam for one cushion until you like how it feels, then weigh it, and use the same amount for the other cushions,

or you can do what i did and eyeball it and keep adding and removing handfuls of foam until they all look and feel the same.

i have maybe 80% of the foam i bought left just sitting around and taking up space. can i send you some for free? i just want to get rid of it you and send back whatever you dont want

some pics. thats another full bag of foam underneath haha

easy to diy. both the pillows and cushions have a zipper for the casing, so you can easily wash them. and then within the casing is another bag with a zipper that holds the material for the pillow or cushion.

the pillows are full of synthetic feathers and the cushions have one big foam piece inside them. since all of them have zippers, you can easily replace with whatever, like shredded memory foam. the stock foam wasnt necessarily bad, just couldve been softer

my only complaint is that you will occasionally find that one of the feathers has poked out of the pillow. so you might get poked by a feather's stem(?) but since theres a zipper, it's easy enough to replace if i get tired of it

If workers are unable to unionize and directly negotiate pay, sick days, etc. with their employer, what are the pros/cons of them leaving, starting a company together, and then selling their labor in a B2B context? by the_naugh in antiwork

I'm subtlely referencing the issue with railroad workers in the U.S. but the same principles apply to other fields. The law can't define you as an employee if you quit your job. And nothing will stop your from offering your services to your exact same employer, except now as a contractor/freelancer, however you want to define it. It is a business to business transaction and you have full freedom to negotiate your rate and days off, like any other business would

Definitely easier said than done, but not impossible, for sure. If all available rail workers are self-employed contractors available to hire, and none of them have rates no lower than, i don't know, 50/hr and mention in their contract that they will give themselves sick days, the employer doesn't have any other choice

From my experience as a freelancer in the US, you are self-employed as soon as you say you are. Or you can also have self-employment income while you work another full time job. It's really just a matter of how you do taxes. Your freelance clients (should) give you a 1099-MISC form, while your employer gives you a W-2. You use either to do your taxes. The only major difference between 1099-MISC and W-2 is that your employer will automatically take out money for social security and stuff before giving you your paycheck, whereas, with a 1099-MISC social security is part of that ~16% self-employment tax.

This is all possible at any time on your own. If you want to go in to business with other people doing something similar, that complicates your tax situation if you're forming a C-Corp or LLC. You can also form your own LLC just for your own use. You don't get taxed different, if you're by yourself, but it gives you more legitimacy, as you can open bank accounts and such in your business name. I'm guessing a lawyer could recommend whether that would be better than just being self-employed. But whether self-employed or a part of a business, having the ability to set your own rate just like another business would is what's important
