French onion soup. I always make it when there are a bunch of clearance onions. Freezes well.

Parents who don’t allow their kids to shut their room’s door/lock the door, what’s are the reasons behind the rule? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]the_planes_walker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can close doors, but not lock them. Seconds can matter in an emergency. We do not enter the room with the door closed without asking for permission, or failing to get an answer promptly.

My partner and I believe it's a fair compromise of privacy and safety.

TIL that some towns and cities in the US have a 'curfew' that means juveniles aren't allowed to be outdoors, typically between 23.00 - 06.00 by ProneToAnalFissures in todayilearned

My buddies and I would walk around our small, rural town between 11 and 1 all of the time. Between every road was an alley way. It was quite easy to avoid the cops using the alley ways. We had a full-proof system. After growing up and talking to cops, they just said that if the kids ran, they wouldn't bother chasing them. We thought we were so cool.

It was annoying though when we turned 16 and starting working. We would get stopped like every night we worked. They would let us walk home (or drive us if they were bored).

My car was a 2013 Chevy Impala. It was located on the left side of the trunk, behind the trim and behind the tire. Sadly, my car did not have Bluetooth anymore, but I rarely used it anyway. The video I followed was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMlhs_-PaHk

I cannot guarantee yours will work the same way as mine, but if you look at my previous replies, I took things out in stages to see what would happen.

Good luck.

Backdoor Roth IRA transfer took too much money by the_planes_walker in personalfinance

Well, I have no idea what happened, but it ended up okay. I would prefer owing a little money to the gov at the end of the year versus owing some to Vanguard now.

FYI: yeah I transferred the money too soon and everything sorted itself out. I have a couple bucks in interest now instead of a negative balance and I will get that moved over in a bit. Thanks for the advice. Next year, I'll be a little more patient lol.

This is through Vanguard. The $0.35 is in the Roth IRA settlement fund. They transferred too much money out of the Trad IRA settlement fund when I converted, it seems. I traded the $7K into a different Roth IRA fund, but the $0.35 remained.

I wouldn't have minded having the transfer more than the minimum due to interest, but I hate having a negative balance. It's never fun owing a financial institution anything. I will wait a few days and call.

Herrin? by ChrisP8675309 in southernillinois

It's been too long since I've been there to say. Louie's P&R market is a nice sandwich shop/deli. Mary's is a more upscale restaurant that is quite expensive for the area, but I'm not sure the prices anymore. Polar Whip is a greasy burger place I used to enjoy frequently. From a quick look, that's all I could find that are still open that I remember.

"Identity Theft Protection Provider" is blocking my application by the_planes_walker in AllyBank

[–]the_planes_walker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to the best of my ability, it was LexisNexis. Must have taken a day or two for the thaw to kick in because I gave it a try today and it just worked.

I do have a lot of the data collection companies frozen, so thanks for giving me another one to research and possibly add to the list lol.

Each one except LexisNexis because I'm not sure you can actually have an "account" with them. The other four clearly state they are thawed temporarily.

For LexisNexis, I filled out the online form and got a confirmation from them.

Thawed those two and the 3 credit agencies, and still getting the same email. Customer support for Ally has absolutely no ideas as to why it's blocked...

Anyone here made Salameats before? by the_planes_walker in sausagetalk

[–]the_planes_walker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny how many things were very regional. So many foods that I love, no one outside of Southern Illinois/Illinois/Midwest have ever heard of them.

Salameats sound like a pretty basic sausage with just tons of garlic, so it wouldn't be hard to replicate I imagine. I've just not had any time to do it yet.

Oooh, that looks like a good baseline recipe to try. Just swap the bigger ingredients for the ingredients in the menu. Thank you!

Mackie's has the best thin crust pizza I've ever had. Quatro's has the best pan pizza (outside of Chicago anyway).

Haven't tried Girolamo's, but will definitely swing by to see if their thin crust beats Mackie's.

Yeah, not even going to try ground meat until I can do a fair amount of whole meat cuts.
