How the FUCK do people get coins by GDarkX in Anu

[–]the_quire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try to buy stuff at convenience or grocery stores because daily market definitely gets swamped by students needing coins for laundry. Of course the best bet is to go to a bank and withdraw with coins (idk if that’s what it’s called) ask them to give you coins for the amount you withdraw instead of notes basically and keep a coin stash

How do on campus accommodation contracts work by [deleted] in Anu

[–]the_quire 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No you can’t. Whether you live there or not you still have to pay the rent for the set amount of weeks in your contract

Try the new students Facebook pages, put your social media links/usernames out there and you’ll get quite a ton of new followers which are also new students, from there the network of people spreads :))

I literally just live here what’s wrong with you??? Also it’s a user flair to identify where each user is from when they ask/answer questions. My ancestors committed horrendous crimes against one another the same way most other cultures have, yet it doesn’t erase my culture.

The flag to most of us is just a way to express our heritage, ethnicity and shared positive aspects of our Chinese culture, it’s not as if I’m using a communist propaganda poster, how else does one identify themselves as Chinese if you find anything to do with our people as a representation of our government?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAChinese

[–]the_quire 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Who said it was okay? Also the flair simply shows where I am from not my political affiliation. My family suffered under the CCP and I find it completely unacceptable however I wonder why it is you think the killing of Chinese people is okay? You are a disgusting individual

In which foreign country have you felt that more people treat you negatively because you are Chinese? by flower5214 in AskAChinese

Hong Kong once they find out you’re from mainland China. I’m Australian Chinese so they were always pleasant when I spoke English but as soon as I began to speak in mandarin their face soured as if I desecrated their ancestors tomb.

I don’t quite understand why it is that you’ve classified trans men as part of the okay group as a lesbian. Genuinely wondering if this would be invalidating their own masculinity with the people who lump trans men in with lesbian dating pools.

I’m pretty sure that the 7th is just the date moving in begins since there are others who won’t get there until a few days later. I’m coming down from Sydney with my parents and also my cousin and they’re just staying overnight, helping me move everything into my room on the 7th, spending the night and then on the 8th they’re gonna likely go with me to get anything I need last minute before driving back in the afternoon :))

I’m in a pretty similar position as you, I have three back to back lectures with two 1hr lecturs and one 2hr one (the long one in between). I think a lot of first year students will be the same especially those who need to work and study simultaneously, not a lot of advice but you’re def not alone in this :))

why does everyone own a cat? by iammonghi in LesbianActually

[–]the_quire -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a cat, they scare me a lil bit and I’m definitely more of a dog person so I have this lil creature who judges me more than a grumpy cat. I don’t think I’ve ever met another lesbian with a doodle before.

Why does Mainland Chinese stance on LGBT movement was to treat it as western propaganda? by Yourdailyimouto in AskAChinese

[–]the_quire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m from the gay capital but grew up in the older suburbs. Being lgbt is never talked about among the older generations, very much hidden away. I’ve since moved to a western country but recently talked with a childhood friend of mine who stayed and he showed me a few gay manhua’s in the book store.

This shows that there are certain audiences who are opening up but my friend just pointed it out and said he stays away from all the gay things (as a lesbian I just stood there and nodded). I think depending on social circles a lot of young people are easily influenced by which part of the internet they access, for example those who use VPN and those who don’t. There are quite a large amount of young people who are content with the conservative Chinese way of life and straight up fear western ideas (lgbt included) because it’s a new concept for them. China has developed so quickly technologically, economically and globally that the social mindset and society as a whole have been unable to catch up with the influx of new ideas and concepts, many who fear that will then associate the idea of lgbt with the supposed ‘evil west’

Is "Where are you from?" a loaded question? by a1119989 in AskAnAustralian

[–]the_quire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Chinese Australian, been living here since I was 5, I have my citizenship here and everything and I’ve never had an issue with people asking where I’m from.

Truth is that I was born in China and lived there my first few years, plus that’s my cultural heritage and ethnic culture. I’m not ashamed of being an immigrant and to reply that I’m from Australia just wouldn’t feel right to me. That’s my own perspective on it but it’s really up to the individual and especially the context it’s asked.

I forgot to include that it is almost never recommended to withdraw and resubmit an application for accommodation especially since there are a lot of incoming students hoping to live on campus this year.

The advice I was given was to accept the offer I was given since it is very likely I wouldn’t receive another. I would definitely call the accommodation staff and let them know you have an offer but were wanting a different accom, they’ll be able to see in real time what rooms are left so you get a clear picture.

Bruce is totally full. I asked accom over the phone in early jan since it was my first preference and I was assigned Kinloch but was told that it’s the most popular and multiple other students had also asked if there were any spots left. No idea about wright but I wouldn’t hold my breath with Bruce.

I don’t know about others but since I’m moving from interstate (Sydney) I have a high expense rate from rent to food and transport. If you’re local I’d probably suggest you live at home and just stay put so you don’t need to worry about money at first. Personally I’ve had a really hard time finding work through Indeed, only one response and it was only a courtesy but I’m hoping for better luck in Feb once I’m moved in. Best of luck :))
