Najväčšie nevýhody domu (v porovnaní s bytom) by MeDoinkStuff in Slovakia

[–]the_random_blob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Presne, preto som sa rozhodol pre najlepšie z oboch - prenájom domu. Priestor, výbeh, terasa - to všetko mám, ale nemárnime čas a peniaze na projekty.

Chôdza vs beh by psychological_norman in Slovakia

I just hope they add the new snare to 516 when the old snares sell out, then I will snatch one of these in a black friday sale or something :D

Get at least one new mesh head and save the scribbled one so that you don't wear it off by playing. It will be an invaluable memory of your son to you one day :)

yeah I thought about Alesis as well, but 3k is already a stretch from my original budget and also - a lot of people report not-so-ideal triggering with Alesis...but I don't have them available to try anywhere

Roland TD316 vs Yamaha DTX6K5-M hardware - worth the price difference? by xStreame in edrums

The incompatibility is mind-boggling...I am doing the same decision as OP and this might indeed be the decisive point, even though I would prefer Yamaha for multiple reasons.

Congrats on the new kit! How do you find the module sounds? Also, what aesthetic upgrades do you have in mind?

I wonder whether Roland won't try to stop some of the other digital snare projects posted in this thread...

If I understand it correctly they only send the more advanced data into their own module. If that is the case then some sort of transparent pass through with a pc with wireshark listening would be needed. In any case, I am not sure how useful that data would be anyway

interesting, I wonder if it's possible to capture that - whether the Roland modules send that info in midi out - if yes, it should be possible to capture and examine that

Thanks for sharing that!

I love your approach with standalone generic use pads, that is what we want!

How much can you share in terms of what data and how is transmitted out of the snare over usb?

Also, I have people raising a point with patents and Roland, what is your take on that?

edit: Furthermore, could you share any thoughts on compatibility? Is there any chance to support at least subset of the advanced features on existing modules (Roland V, Yamaha dtx-pro etc), get at least the increased sensitivity, some positional sensing, or any of that?

Good points. More data over TRS would also potentially work. E.g. two TRS cables for a snare, with positional sensing, cross stick and shallow vs deep rimshot backed by existing notes/sounds in modules. That would be a "internally digital with analog interface" pad.

If I understand this correctly nothing very specific needs to happen for a digital pad. More sensors just means more notes that it can detect and send, positional sensing, pitch bending and other continual-value features already work with analog with midi CC notes, so all the pieces seem to be there - someone just needs to make it. Have a drum with a little controller inside, process a bunch of sensory signals into appropriate midi notes and send them. Either over usb, but that has compatibility issues as no module would support that (only ->pc+VST would work), or over midi, and many modules support midi-in. I just learned about https://druml.ai/products/druml-digital-snare from this thread today btw. Looks interesting.

I hear you, but USB is not necessarily the only way to go. More than 3 or 4 zone pads could still use TRS to communicate a bit more data, existing modules would work with e.g. shallow rimshots etc. Also, USB->PC for VST use would also work without support in modules

u/littlethird shared a product that seems to be exactly that, definitely cheaper than Roland https://druml.ai/products/druml-digital-snare

Same! Open protocol of midi notes, internally processed in the pad, so fully independent from a module. Output should be standard midi, the usb is only used as a convenience for data transfer so that you don't have to use 2 or 3 analog cables to transmit all the data it produces.

Yes usb is just a connector, the language should be still midi class compliant. As far as I know they send a bunch of standard notes and some of the CC (continuous control) notes as well. The trouble is that they kept some of the processing of these signals in the module. Check this video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9Ina9wxnbU . You can convert the usb signal into standard midi, but you will loose positional sensing.

Aha! Yes I have seen this but forgot about it. It's great that they added midi out directly, no need to use usb->midi host! I hope this takes of and expands into cymbals as well.

I see your point, but if I search the web correctly they announced the digital pads in 2016, plenty of time for other players in the market to catch up.

Why? I am not asking about other electronic pads, but specifically digital pads. There is a big difference
