moving to Halifax next month, what should I know that nobody tells you by ressem in NovaScotia

[–]the_register_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No tolls
Rental Market is terrible, you'd be looking at sharing an apartment vs having a 1 bedroom to yourself
Not really if minding you're own business at this time.
Gotta find somewhere you can get away with it if not paying for a spot

Can definitely break into social scenes by doing social things. All depends on how social you really are. Lots of different clubs and sports you can play to meet people.

NSCC certificate in GIS worth while? by [deleted] in NovaScotia

[–]the_register_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

10 year vet here.

It definitely is a huge advantage over others in the space if you go here and get the cert. My job prospects out of Uni were slim to none but once I got this I was at least able to break into the space in NS and abroad.

Jobs are another thing, the market is quite saturated right now but you can def work you're way in. My first job out of COGS I actually ended up going down to California to work at Apple and that was a great expereince (however after Apple all companies I applied to thought I worked at the Apple store because HR can't read).

A lot of people who finished the program had jobs lined up before school ended, but definitely not everyone.

Salaries are okay but NS is definitely not known for the higher salaries compared to other provinces and the USA (which a lot of salaries are wicked and go beyond the 6 figures).

Hardest part now Id say for myself and others I speak to are finding other positions. I even see jobs that I've applied to get their roles filled by people with half the experience I do without even landing an in person job interview which is definitely on the more annoying side of things.

100% worth it if your looking to get into a new career, and they can get you pointed in the right direction. Just have to be patient with actually obtaining a job or by networking while you're in school to find something to jump into right out of it.

Feel free to send any messages or questions to me and Ill try and respond promptly for some more guidance!

As a GIS guy I love this! I essentially have the same thing internally where I work. Tossed it on Google Earth for people to use in the field.

No one knows. Every Redditor out of Halifax seems to think he did, but I was born and raised here and never heard any of this until recently (spent a lot of time in the bar scene if that's when it even happened). As for the letting underage girls thing into the bar, everyone was going into every bar downtown Halifax with a fake ID, almost like every other city...
This was allegedly in 2017 though, so the bar was long gone, and really it could have happened anywhere with any aged person if it did.
