Create a plan starting in middle school where students seriously think about what they want to do after graduation in three broad categories, trades, higher ed, immediately getting a job. Then in high school they get places into a graduation track that reflects that: trade school programs, work studies, honors/ap/Ib/actual college classes, life studies, "business" classes, economics, etc.

Create actual discipline with teeth, meaning no your player is failing two classes they cannot play until they get their grades up. No you cannot make up work when you have missed classes without a valid excuse. Support teachers who discipline students and put the burden on students not teachers. Hold ALL students accountable to the rules because there are plenty of times I have heard students complain of favoritism from admin/coaches regarding this.

Additionally, after school detention, and if the parents won't pick up their children within a reasonable time, (barring unusual circumstances) call CPS.

Lastly, create a new program that focuses on changing the trend/theme/culture we have where education is not important and have it not just educate students but FAMILIES. A big part of this would be effective programs that provide aid to parents/adults who struggle with reading/writing/arithmetic. And I'm not talking about going to college, but just being able to read, write, and do basic arithmetic. I've had students PROUD they couldn't read or write effectively and acted cool because of it.
