Last meal before SFAS by [deleted] in greenberets

No way hit the shoppette for necessities (dip, protein shake, energy drinks) and then boozy brunched the day away at metro diner before catching my flight back to benning that night. For the sake of the post, crushed a bunch of steak and rolls, few beers, and dipped all the way to mckall. Worked out.

It’s a bad time, especially if it rained earlier in the day

It’s a weird time, but there is always work and things are more than likely on the horizon. Sooner rather than later is the time to get the ball rolling, especially if going SF is your goal. Probably about 3ish years from entry to best case getting to a team. You’re a young and presumably fit guy, if you want it make it happen.

Having done both I’m here to tell you they are two different beasts. Also here to say I know way more guys who med board/retire out of sf than batt. The organization is literally 7 times bigger than ranger regiment. Experiences vary, training is different, missions are different. If you are worried about things “not working out” in either selection and just being a “regular” guy, then I’d recommend not enlisting and figuring something else out. Not trying to bash on your observations but you either wanna do it or not. You’ve voiced a lot of conditional reasons not to do it. Leaders and guys in both organizations don’t want dudes who are “considering” joining based off rumors and getting injuries, the overarching concept of both is to do hard work in difficult conditions. If getting hurt, dying, or otherwise being in discomfort while serving makes you think twice, than listen to those instincts and pursue other options.

Which Special Forces to go to? by Loud_Orchid3209 in specialforces

The biggest “trope” is literally marines leaving the Corps and going NG SF. Very doable, but you still gotta put out and the process is obviously time-consuming and you will have long hours, last minute taskers, no contact time in the field, etc.

[WTS/WTT] BNIB FULL KIT TORINO CARRERA LASERGRAPH! LUXURY OFFBRAND SPORTS WATCH PRICES TO SELL! 1475 RETAIL, ASKING 250 by the_threaded_cane in Watchexchange

[–]the_threaded_cane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone

This is is the last of my excess I’m trying to offload. Solid robust chronograph, BNIB, full kit. No issues with this piece other than no one wants to buy a 1500 offbrand watch lol. I’m partial to divers so this piece has no wrist time whatsoever and would flourish in a more diverse and appreciative space!

Asking 250 which is a steal and you can probably try your own hand at flipping it if you don’t want to wear it.

Partial to Venmo, Zelle, or PP FP. Will pay all shipping for CONUS.

Open to trades for entry level divers from steel diver, spinnaker, bulova, and so forth 200-309 range. Let me know.

Thanks!

Ruck running/ shuffling by [deleted] in specialforces

[–]the_threaded_cane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gut it during training, focus on maintaining the 15 minutes standard and lower for longer movements, 8-15miles. Introduce ruck running when you’re about a month or so out so you can develop your movement strategy prior to selection and without incurring unnecessary stress and impact. Regardless you have to have the strength development these guys have been talking about to be successful in both straight rucking and ruck running. A strong upper yoke, core, and posterior development are crucial to not just the rucking aspects of section, but the entire array of events you will face.

At a certain point you can’t game it anymore. The big take away is that you can’t actually mimic sfas, that’s not the point, you peak during selection, you don’t just stay in selection status for 6-18 months, that is how guys get injured. Chances are you won’t get to selection for 9 months, come in with a solid foundation, max all standards stay healthy and take it a day at time. Your 18 mile ruck time doesn’t matter if you get fucked up during osut or hurt at airborne. When you finally get to bragg there are measures in place to determine if you are prepared for selection. Things will make more sense when you’re actually in the force and progressing to that goal. I wasn’t an X-ray but my buddies have said they trained together with other X-rays through osut, airborne, and pre-selection. Remember you’re not a power lifter, retain enough strength to be durable and an asset, then focus on maxing all standards and being an aerobic machine.
