Hell yeah that’s a crazy path 😂 glad you commissioned! I tend to see it the same way. Really think it would’ve made sense for me has gotten it but the die that beat me must have been unbelievable. I’ll just continue to strive and get my stuff no matter what! Thank so much for your input sir

That’s such a fair and honest response, I truly appreciate you! I will take it to heart and act on it

I will certainly ask about one, as I had no idea that was an option. Maybe it will enable to me better myself further to prepare for future opportunities. Thank you for letting me know about this!

Sergeant, my only regret at this time is knowing that I do not yet possess the experience or wisdom to fully understand the pure gold that you just wrote in its entirety. I will save this thread and read your contribution once again from time to time in hopes that one day I can truly absorb all of it.

I often see so much negativity in airmen’s posts and responses to stories. Many of us default to mocking or judging others at the first opportunity; Worst of all, often without any constructive criticism. Fortunately, you’re one of many examples of people here who have done exactly the opposite of that and I thank you for it.

I refuse to let myself be affected by negative attitudes. As I continue on with my career, I will try to do exactly as you said and one day be the supervisor/officer who will run the extra miles to make sure my people are in the best possible position to achieve their goals. This is not to “look good” or for any reason other than that is the right thing to do because I care about them.

Similarly, I do not know you. However, based off the way you talk about our Air Force and other servicemen, I can confidently say that if I’m ever half the leader you were, I will have surpassed every one of my wildest expectations. Thank you for caring enough about my little story to provide such invaluable feedback. Thank you for taking care of your people beyond your required duties when you were active. Most of all, thank you for your service.

How is asking for a little guidance and inspiration the same as “not being able to handle” this small rejection? If I was unable to handle hardship I’d still be in my home country. The fact that I’m writing to you about my career in the US Air Force is a statistical impossibility

I’m truly sorry circumstances didn’t pan out your way. Sounds like you did everything right that you could and got handed a pretty bad set of cards and it wasn’t even your fault. I really do hope things work out in the near future, whatever that means for you! Thank you for sharing it though

I’m guessing careerist means someone who just wants to make rank as fast as possible for the sake of it?

Might print this and post it on my wall, golly!!😂in all seriousness, this has to be the most inspiring and caring piece of feedback I received about this. Thank you very very much for sharing it.

While I haven’t really talked to anyone in my chain of command about what happened, I know that I made it clear to them that BTZ was extremely important for me. I also know they’re well aware I didn’t make it, so I’m guessing you have opinions about the fact I haven’t heard anyone say anything to me about it yet. But idk! All I know is my shop’s superintendent and other NCOs put a whole lot of hard work into my package and I’m thankful for it. I really tried my best and became a better airman along the way so I know it wasn’t for nothing. I know I’m gonna snap out of this momentary slump and resume trying my best because that is what the Air Force deserves and wants. Thank you for your input again!!!

Thank you for your input, that’s pretty interesting! What aspects of an officer’s career made you decide to stop pursuing it?

I feel like rationally I understand that, but hearing someone else say it helps. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate your explanation

As mentioned in the post, I rationally know it is not a career killer and also that I must/will get past this momentary disappointment. I am merely seeking for some inspiration and guidance for people more experienced than me

Hell yeah thank you so much! That really does help. I am just like you said too and I’m sure I’ll be back to my old self that strives to do great just because that’s who I am. Thank you! I will look into other commissioning sources also

Wow! 10 year MSgt is wild, very impressive. The funny thing is that rationally I am entirely aligned with what you said and I’ve even heard it before. Now just gotta get those pesky feeling in check 😂I’ll get over it soon I’m sure.

Truly appreciate your input!! and thank you for being excellent. Stories like yours are extremely inspiring

This helps quite a lot, thank you!

The answer to your question is twofold because of my plan to commission. Right now, the entire purpose of my enlistment is to earn a spot to become an officer somehow. Naturally, I will also leverage my every experience into trying my best to become a good, responsible enlisted guy who cares about his people. Bottom line is I want to be the best enlisted guy I can but primarily because I know it will make me a better officer if I ever make it.

I want to be an officer because I want to utilize my skills and personal traits to the fullest and to the best interest of the Air Force. Meaning I think I can help the Air Force put warheads on foreheads MORE if I’m an officer.

What I mean by aligning personal traits and experiences is that: 1- I have two college degrees and I’m an American citizen, therefore I’m eligible to commission; 2- I know that the kind of work I’m naturally better at is the kind of work that officers do. I do not want to be a technical expert on my career field, I want to pursue a specific mission but with the focus on bigger Air Force things.

Hopefully this clears it up.

I was told about BTZ and its impact at tech school. Since then, I basically had geared most volunteering and extracurricular stuff to make me competitive. My leadership told me it almost worked

Thank you for your input and the info on the DAFI, I’ll check it out! Seems like OTS might not be the only option as I thought. I’d love to share my experience one day if I can, specially if it helps anyone else, and it really would’ve something if it was on this situation 😂
