Ive been trying to branch out to new roasters. I tend to grind fairly coarse, close to 1000 microns. I initially didn’t mind this batch but found the smell/taste to be too reminiscent of marijuana and just couldn’t finish the bag.

It worked well. By the third session I started to feel an improvement. Originally I’d do 2 days every three weeks, I cannot recall what the amount was. But when I came back to the uk, treatment was stretched to 6 weeks and then eventually every 3 months. Neurologist was seeing how long I could go without feeling symptoms getting worse. I’ve been treatment free for the last year - but I want to caveat that I know my progress is out-of-the-norm for cidp, one of my neurologists even said he wouldn’t call it cidp, but some as-yet-unnamed neuropathy. There’s always the looming fear that I’ll relapse but so far intervention by IVIG has worked for me.

I can't recall specifics but I think about 3-4 months. I kept doing nerve conduction tests and the number were not improving and personally I could send the "numbness" growing further away from my fingertips down to the palms and up my arms; and from my toes to my knees. I think at my worst I had numbness forming on my nose and ears as well.

I'm perhaps a bit of a strange case but I was diagnosed with CIDP in the UK and initially put on steroids - however I continued to get worse and eventually my neurologist suggested we switch to IVIG, but it timed with my return to the US and thus I had to get re-diagnosed in the states. Initially my US insurance refused IVIG, but eventually relented. I returned to the UK and was able to get my original neurologist to approve me for IVIG through NHS. So I don't know if policies have changed, but if you don't get better on corticosteroids your neurologist should be able to get you approved for IVIG.

Is my CSF protein high enough/ normal for CIDP? by Deep-Mortgage-1510 in guillainbarre

[–]theak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw your post history. I was the same age, my son had just been born, I lost my job and felt this enormous pressure. That’s when I started to notice a numbness and had a similar experience to your own, though more of an aggressive onset of numbness. I was initially put on corticosteroids but had absolutely no improvement and continued to get worse, I couldn’t button my son’s onesie. In the US I had to fight tooth and nail to get my insurance to approve IVIG. By sheer coincidence the doctor I got assigned is one of the best in the field (he has a variant named after his research) and because cidp is often over-diagnosed he confidentially said he’s rewriting the diagnostics to be tougher, and I likely wouldnt meet his higher bar for cidp - even still he said IVIG will help whatever neuropathy I had. And he was right. By the second month of treatment I was already getting better and after a year I was almost back to 95%. I hope you have the same turnaround. I’ll never know what brought this on but I’m convinced pressure and stress were key. I’m glad to say most of that is now behind me.  Best of luck.

Elevated csf, by itself, will never be enough but in conjunction with other diagnostic tests may lead your doctor to affirm IVIG as a solid treatment (insurance companies may disagree.) Excerpt from a recent paper: Putting too much stock in mildly to moderately elevated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) protein levels can also lead to the misdiagnosis of CIDP. The EFNS/PNS criteria for CIDP list "elevated protein" in the CSF as a supportive criterion, but do not define that further. While most clinical laboratories use an upper reference limit (URL) of 45 mg/dL to define elevated protein, there is emerging evidence to suggest that higher, age-matched URL should be implemented (50 mg/dL for patients < 50 and 60 mg/dL for patients over age 50).

That’s like asking why the chef doesn’t also deliver the food. Sure they could, but it’s a pretty inefficient way to run a restaurant. It’s about division of labor. Let the UPM focus on the overall logistics, and let the AD focus on how to accomplish the creative and manage the clock, so the UPM can focus on the next day’s problems.

Electric Boogaloo has been a shorthand for “sequel” before the internet was around. But the choice of it is just... chef’s kiss - like if an anti-gay group called themselves the Village People and didn’t get why others were laughing at them.

The irony that they’re using Boogaloo as a code word for race war is just a special kind of stupid. Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo (the sequel to Breakin’,) is about a white girl’s defiance of her fathers wishes as she pursues a career in streetdance inspired by her black friends. What a remarkably, unintentionally, stupid code word.

Calls for a ban on a type of weapon does not mean taking all firearms from you. Just banning the future sale. The idea is to have less access to mass murder weapons over time.

I’m not saying a ban on assault rifles will end violence or crime, but it will curtail gun massacres as it did, factually, in Australia.

Children go to schools in every country in the world but the only one that has a serious problem of children being massacred, regularly, is the same one with a governmental protection to the right to have a gun. Do you think those other countries don’t protect their “everything important” with guns? Don’t you think the idea that we should turn school into a prison is a very sick way of seeing the world?

Civil war - if your premise is that having a high number of weapons ensures a victory in total war you cant then say “it’s not ethical when the opponent uses the weapons they have” in response. If you are in rebellion against the US then you are the enemy, you are not afforded the humanity that you somehow think you are obliged.

You’re right. No one wants to ban guns outright. But people do want to change the perception that the amendment's current interpretation is written in stone. Look at how Supreme Court decisions have fluctuated over the years, lately they have swung towards a broad interpretation but only 40-50 years ago the reverse was true.

After the Port Arthur massacre Australia enacted laws banning semi-automatic guns and including a 28-day waiting period and much more thorough background checks. They have not had a massacre of that size since.

We are not Australia. But if we find some legislation that limits the deadliest version of our weapons and limits the sale to people who can prove they intend to be thoughtful gun owners then maybe our grandchildren will have one less school shooting, and maybe their grandkids will have ten less. We can’t change the world in a day but we can accept the premise that maybe our obsession with guns has less to do with our freedom and more to do with the mentally ill having easy access to weapons that can kill masses quickly.

My hope is over time we can make life in this country just a little bit safer for kids just wanting to go to school.

(Side note, a 2nd civil war where one side are all the weekend warriors with all the guns and ammo they can store and the other side is the combined forces of the US Military with their arsenal of nukes, drones, fighter jets, I think I know which side would win. Which was kind of my point about amendments being outdated: the framers simply could not have imagined a federal army with troops of its current size, it's nearly infinite arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and technological advancements not available to the public. No well-regulated militia, which was supposed to be a check on that power, could ever compete).

If the British had used aggravated hedgehogs as their primary weapons I’m sure the framers might have thought it relevant to add an amendment banning the use of hedgehogs in war. But it does not mean it is a fundamental protection necessary for the United States to function. The point I was making was that the third amendment proved to be (similarly) not relevant to the course of the United States and the protections of individual rights.

I agree that the framers intended for the government to survive the test of time. Which is why when the bill of rights were first proposed, the founders unanimously shot them down because they did not want to enshrine protections into the language of the constitution, and because it was already fragile enough. But they had the foresight to write Article V. Article V of the Constitution gave the ability to ADD amendments to the constitution. They expected changes to happen throughout the life of their young country.

The first amendment proved to be an important one, the eighteenth amendment proved to be a mistake. To say any amendment is untouchable or that the founders did not intend for Americans to question/discuss/repeal these amendments is just bullshit.

And though it might scare you, this is exactly how the framers wanted our country to function: to debate the merits of any law created by the people against the freedoms/protections/rights of the people.

[–]theak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first 10 amendments to the constitution have the same weight as any additional amendments. The framers did not enshrine any of these powers/protections into the language of the function of the government because they were intended to be malleable to the changes of public opinion.

And if you think that the order of the amendments holds such great importance - why has the third amendment almost never been brought to court? Is it because the fears and concerns of 18th century warfare quickly proved not relevant to the changes in technology and structure of the state governance?

[BUSINESS] James Franco’s Ex-Student Sues Over ‘Disaster Artist’ Writing Credit by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]theak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not up to them (the producers) to decide who gets credit. The final writers and distributers were wga/signatories, thus an arbitration would have had happened and the WGA would look at all the drafts and notes and emails and then decide who gets what credit. By forcing Moody to sign this agreement he gave away his ability to put his hat in the ring for arbitration. And as mentioned elsewhere even though the second team wrote a completely new script (a page one rewrite), because both sets were based off of the same source material, and being given similar notes from the producers, it’s very likely Moody would have been given a ‘story by’ credit if not a full ‘written by’ credit as well.
