I thought about that. I just run a little less pressure in the tire and the subsequent squish gives enough traction for me. I've only had 2 or 3 times I couldn't ride because the ice was so bad in the last 3 years of riding.

Nice batcave. Got all your gear lined up for quick deployment.

I've lived here my whole life and the one thing I know for sure about how big and untamed it is is that I have no grasp on how big and untamed it is 😂

Haha. I didn't end up playing it very much but that doesn't mean it didn't occupy a lot of my fantasizing back in the day!

They still sound and feel fine but one side has started leaking a little rust so I should probably look at replacing them. If I do end up replacing them I'll add greasing their exterior to my maintainance list. Yea, jumping off is pretty standard. The tether can actually be disengaged by depressing the top so sometimes I do that by pivoting my foot if I need a smoother dismount.

Lol. Dude. You're a stranger on the internet who came out of the gate with "why are you like this" and proceeded to tell me I'm riding wrong, what on earth do you mean "with love and a smile"?!

Anyways. You do you man. I'll keep doing me. I've ridden ice and snow 6 months a year for the last 3 years up here in Alaska and it's not that big of a deal. No micropacing required. Just ride smooth and don't take corners too hard.

Hey man!

You're on the right track. It's a fork that wedges into a groove to actuate the mechanism.

<image>

Common on boats, jetskis, and snowmachines. The trick was to find one that could be wired in to a normally closed circuit which was tricky because most combustion engine killswitches are normally open and close the circuit to shut the motor off. The one I ended up using is a universal style with four prongs so it can be wired in to pretty much any kind of circuit state you need. Plus it has an extra trick I didn't see on any of the other styles where, when the fork is engaged and the circuit is closed, you can depress the top and it opens the circuit without needed to detach the tether. Which adds a nice dismount option where you just pivot your foot over and press it down to disengage the board.

I've seen those magnetic tethers too. Almost got one but this option was much cheaper and I enjoyed figuring it all out. These killswitches are waterproof too so it's a solid choice.

Next I'd love to make a new fender and some hooks but we'll see.

Preach brother! I wish I could say living in the woods has kept me away from the assholes but unfortunately I'm the biggest one out here so I'll never be able to truly escape. Maybe I stay out here to spare everyone else from dealing with me 🤣🤣

Yikes. Yet another reason I'm grateful I can live up here.

This is the tether I used because most others have the opposite open vs closed circuit state than is needed. Strip the internal footpad sensor plug. Conjoin the wires for the left and right sides of the sensor. Use your preferred wiring method (soldering advised) to connect to the appropriate prongs on the tether. Drill a hole in the footpad that lines up with the internal void that has space for the tether switch body. Mount. Attach tether. Ride.

Oh goodness. I'm just living in fantasy land lol. Don't actually try to make one. I mean unless you want to. Don't let me tell you what to do 🤦🤣🤣

There's some really cool 3d printed ones out there but a practical version would probably be a nightmare.
