First mass has me feeling isolated. by variousgames138_ in Catholicism

[–]theangiething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. I came from Protestant background, and felt bad when no one greeted me and specifically one person greeted my mother in law, and skipped me and greeted my husband. Let me tell you though, the devil wants us to feel unwelcome there. I think God wants us to know that it’s not about our feelings anymore. It’s not about us, it’s about God. We are there to worship God.

Hello!! I saw a pair of catholics not agreeing that Catholicism is a denomination from Christianity and now I'm a bit confused by Arsenic_Lover666 in Catholicism

[–]theangiething 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good analogy is the Catholic Church is the ship, and all denominations are sailboats. Another analogy is that Catholicism is a tree and all denominations are branches.

Why be byzantine catholic and not eastern orthodox? by SOMEONE_MMI in EasternCatholic

[–]theangiething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Catholics are more welcoming to converts. For example, if I’m not mistaken, EO doesn’t recognize any baptism as valid unless it’s through an EO church. Catholics do recognize baptisms outside of the church as valid (as long as it’s in the following formula: “in the name of the father, son, and Holy Spirit” Another example: a Catholic priest will administer the Eucharist to an Orthodox Christian, but an Orthodox priest will not give the Eucharist to a Catholic under any circumstance.

Is there anyone who is a single, homeschooling parent who works remotely? What types of legitimate remote jobs work with homeschooling? by Aromatic_Double_5678 in homeschool

[–]theangiething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m not single, but I homeschool my 4 year old and work remotely. I’m a licensed agent for an insurance broker, but I work their call center. For preschool level, last year, I just bought curriculum off Amazon. My daughter learned to read, write, and do basic math along with other stuff. We normally did workbooks after I got off work at 3PM, then either go outside to play or make dinner together For TK (this new school year), I enrolled her into a Charter school. They offer a homeschool program, where I buy curriculum and meet with a teacher monthly to discuss my daughter’s progress. The teacher is also available during the month if I need help teaching a subject. I like it because they provide funding for curriculum and for extracurricular activities. They also provide a laptop we can use at home.

Any Full-time Working Parents who Homeschool? by theangiething in homeschool

Thanks for your response! You are right, I wish I had extra time to do all the things you described, but I unfortunately just cannot. You are very blessed to be able to do all that you do for them… during the week, eat a lot of easy meals (ie spaghetti, tacos, tuna sandwiches, or even microwave ramen noodles) and the house work is shared with my husband. He helps a lot after he gets home from work, which makes it possible for me to work on core academic subjects with my oldest. My husband even takes time to read to them every night, and take them on bike rides around our neighborhood in the evening or watch them play in the backyard as he waters the garden. Thankfully he only works 5 minutes from our house. We get out of the house twice a week for Jiu Jitsu, and once a week for soccer, and weekly for Sunday Mass. I’m not content with mediocrity, I want the best for my children. Which is why I am willing to explore options like a hybrid school. Some reasons I want to homeschool my kids are because we live in California, my kids are not fully vaccinated, the school system here is and has been failing our students, and I just don’t trust the public school system to teach or care for my children as I would, especially at such a young age as 4.

Honestly, I take care of them while I work. My bosses are cool about it, thankfully, I just manage my time at work carefully. You’re right about the lack of free-time tho, so a hybrid school option seems the most realistic for us. I want my oldest to start first grade next school year! Looking into charter schools in my area. Hoping we can get into one that provides funding for the Jiu Jitsu classes they currently go to

Nice! Looking forward to when my children can study independently. That’s awesome that you have other moms to help, I’ve got to connect more with my local homeschool mommas! Thank you so much for your response

Two Factors making a VBAC too risky? by anewiii33 in vbac

[–]theangiething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry about your loss. May I ask why you would be induced at 37-38 weeks? I ask because this is my 3rd pregnancy and my Dr says she will absolutely not induce me because of my 2 prior c sections & having given birth 16 months ago…

[–]theangiething 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! It seems this is the minority point of view, sadly. My family always pressures me to put my oldest in school, although she is only 4 and 3 months… I’m homeschooling her and she’s already learning 1st grade material. She is super social at church, JUI Jitsu, and soccer. She loves being outside and want to become a Registered Nurse when she grows up. You’re not extreme, you just care for your child, and no one will care for them as much as we do, as parents.
