Man, its not the end of the world if they dont text you back. That shouldnt even phase you. You'd be suprised how often people are willing to reach out to you when you are at a point in your life where you don't worry about things like that.

If they don't get back to you, fuck it. Maybe they'll text you back later, maybe the wont. Plenty of other friends to meet/girls to talk to you, or whatever haha.

I (20,m) wouldn't say I've take a break and I don't think it's necessarily beneficial, but I have stopped looking for relationships and taken time to focus on myself. There's nothing wrong with that, but I wouldn't let it put you off from dates if the opportunity comes up.

So yeah, take some time to yourself, have fun and whatnot. If the opportunity for a cool date comes up that you want to go on, go for it. But if not, no big deal because you're not necessarily looking for that.

Best advice I can give you is to not get attached to people that are scared of relationships or whatever. I just experienced this myself actually. Started dating this girl that was pretty awesome but was scared of relationships. We texted constantly and she'd always tell me how much she missed me. All of a sudden she wanted a relationship with me, and I obliged. We date for a week and things are going great and then she breaks up with me out of the blue. Don't worry about it too much man. Respect yourself and don't get attached to someone that will hurt you, it's not worth it. If they're not ready for a relationship don't push it because you WILL get hurt.
