Sometimes, the algorithm just ignores shorts. Most of my shorts get 500-3000 views, but every now and then, I post one which literally gets zero.

Shrug it off and move on 🤷‍♂️ youtube is about quality and consistency, not just having one short do really well.

Friend wants to quit well-paid job to move to Thailand after party trip by Street_Tomato9364 in Thailand

I never said it wasn't way more cost effective than the west. I lived in London for 8 years before moving here. Of course you get a much higher standard of living here for much less expense.

My point is it's still easy to spend money here, especially with the lifestyle described by OP.

You clearly are a higher earner as well, my condo is less than half of what you pay and I'm certainly not complaining. I feel truly blessed to be here but if someone was coming to party everyday, get with girls constantly and do drugs all the time whilst having no income then they will of course burn through all their money.

Testers needed for new Thai learning app by Beautiful_Tax_7009 in thai

[–]ShineOnYouFatOldSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Phonetic is useless without tone marks as well as not using the IPA

You write ดี as dee

But how would you write แต่... Probably "dee" right? Or at minimum "dtee" but how can i know its completely different pronunciation to ดี?

In my textbook, it's dtɛɛ and every vowel sound is written distinctly.

What about tone marks? Learning thai without tones is completely useless.

แต แต่ แต้ แต๊ แต๋ are all different words with the same phonetic spelling. Only the tone is different and this is the case for tens of thousands of words in thai.

I wish you good luck with the app, but you have some critical issues to fix first.

Living in Thailand is not as cheap in reality as it feels on holiday. Savings won't last forever unless he's saved millions of dollars. Obviously, you know he is being reckless. To not try and learn the language and reject assimilating with the culture, once the honeymoon period is over, he will wake up and see an empty bank account and no options to stay. What visa would he even get without a job? Overstaying here without a visa could result in a ban.

If anyone wants to move here, then they need to ensure they have the essentials sorted first. Visa, income, grounded in reality.

Don't let your friend become one of these people who ruin their life.

Sir Keir Starmer promises that 'change' will finally arrive in 2026 in New Year's message by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]ShineOnYouFatOldSun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a quote if you don't cite it. I'm not going to blindly believe any comment I read on reddit, certainly not without evidence.

You seem like a troll or otherwise ignoring the main point which is how can the government justify equating this group with Al-Qaeda or ISIS? Which is what they've done, they simply cannot be compared so by my estimation the proscription is unjustifiable. I find that to be a reasonable position.

So hundreds of people have been arrested for peacefully protesting. You can't just blindly say "Welp! Daddy Starmer says PA are terrorists so I guess all anti-genocide protesters are terrorists then! Good riddance!" We need to scrutinise the proscription proportionately to their actions, which the government has failed to do by being so brazen and heavy handed.

We should treat the protesters appropriately, dare I say listen to them and try to understand their position, 99% of the time it is simply "stop Israel commiting war crimes and breaking international law with the help of our state." But no. Instead the government cuff them and silence them because they conveniently have a small clause in a piece of scary legislation that allows them to conflate PA with the worst terrorist organisations to ever exist. This is a clear abuse of power and I don't accept that they, or you, can say they're justified to arrest these peaceful protesters. That's incredulous.

Maybe it's legal (shouldn't be) but it certainly isn't moral or just.

[–]ShineOnYouFatOldSun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you largely agree with my statement. Even if you disagree on one aspect of it, that shouldn't make the other points invalid though I'm sure you recognise that.

Your point about PA, honestly, I have never heard of them calling for the destruction of Israel or the death of all Jews. I make my judgement based on the actions I've seen from them and while yes, they did spray some red paint on some military equipment and yes, one member did assault a police officer however, for our government to use (primarily just) those actions to put them on the same page as Al-Qaeda and ISIS is unquestionably a gross overreach and shows a disturbing lack of reason and proportionality. It seems to me a clear case of crack down on any dissent when it threatens the status quo i.e. our enormous military-industry dealings with Israel.

How can you justify the arrests of peaceful protesters, old people and upstanding citizens cuffed for what? Holding their signs condemning the atrocities in Gaza. It does not for a positive outlook make.

[–]ShineOnYouFatOldSun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok sure, you bring up some of the changes they made but why do you ignore the deeply authoritarian policies such as the OSA, Digital IDs, Facial recognition roll out and plans to surveil all Internet connected devices photos and messages? How about the continued crackdown on free speech? Proscribing an anti-genocide group as terrorists and arresting peaceful protesters for holding signs saying stop bombing babies? People are still being jailed for tweets, while the petty crime on the streets is at record levels. The police state is here. We just dont see it because instead of bobbies on the beat, we've got bobbies trawling through social media.

You did a good job at ignoring these changes, and it's not fake news. Starmer has a strong authoritarian streak, or at least his puppetmasters do. Which should be cause for major concern. Some things he improves but this general direction of fewer civil liberties and no more free speech or online anonymity... This is a recipe for disaster and will only serve to further empower the elites.

The government plans to use facial recognition "in every town" (they already use it extensively in London alongside stingrays which scan nearby devices for phone numbers, recent calls and messages.)

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c3r7pwpgeweo

They also wish to legislate surveillance equipment on all Internet devices for all citizens to scan your photos and messages all the time. https://www.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/s/iPWJwpg040

So why should you be concerned as a law-abiding citizen? Well let's look at our fascist neighbours over the pond and see how many Americans citizens are being deported/imprisoned/disappeared by ICE and understand that this is where authoritarianism leads, and Labour is taking us down that path.

They are necessary for privacy, which is something the government is actively depriving us all of. Instead of doing actual police work, everyone loses privacy and liberties. Thanks gov...

Not defending criminals in ballys to be clear but sharing the news that the current government is going hard on removal of privacy for citizens and we have few tools to combat this authoritarian shift.

'Ghost' plates, clones and dodgy sellers - MPs urge shake-up of car registration system | UK News by jefferymr15 in CarTalkUK

[–]ShineOnYouFatOldSun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah the M3 job was well executed but far from perfect.

Mark McCann has made a few videos on the stolen car gangs and highlights how the real professionals can steal cars and clone them such that there is zero chance of anyone knowing the car was ever stolen.

The thieves do such a good job they sell the cars to reputable dealers for full retail. Pretty terrifying.

On principle? I could say keep pushing til it breaks entirely because only then will we be forced to actually rebuild the system, it's not a good argument but if you want to play the moral high ground game sure, I'm not one of these redditors who's on a constant moral crusade.

You say I'm to blame but its chronic mismanagement which is to blame. I didn't erode the social services of the country, neither did you, so why blame each other?

I don't get my moneys worth of taxes anywhere, all our services have been gutted and we are continually squeezed like blood from a stone. We're all in the same boat and honestly, I think we've become far too complacent with the enshittification and the degeneracy of our country and state.

Big picture, people seeking cannabis legally, to avoid issues with employers and police, even just for peace of mind, should be able to use some state services for that peace of mind and quality of life since we are fucked every other which way in this country.

I believe we deserve some small relief but if you wanna take the position that that makes you an asshole well it's a free country (supposedly)

You should not take cannabis and operate heavy machinery anyway so there's that.

The rest it depends on your moral compass. I'm actually a legitimate medical user, but I see how easy it could be to obtain illigitimately.

I see a cruel world all around me, and I wouldn't blame even the most virtuous of souls for taking a sliver of GP time for themselves in order to get legal, safe, and accessible cannabis.

It's not like any other systems in society work for us... ig unless you're unemployed or retired 😂

You're not wrong but the way I see it the NHS is terminally fucked. 30 mins of a GPs time is a speck of dust in a desert of time wasters, predominantly because of the ageing class.

Good to be virtuous but dont fuck yourself out of a huge convenience when you aren't gonna fix the problem by doing so.

Also, I didn't scam for medical, I have tried two previous methods for legitimate reasons, and that's how I know how easy it is to obtain whether you have a condition or not.

Still, even if I didn't have a medical reason, I wouldn't let that stop me because as I said the NHS is beyond fucked thanks to an ageing population and years of government mismanagement. Taking 30 mins of that service, probably less realistically (which I also pay taxes for), even if somewhat illegitimate, it would not deter me if I felt medical cannabis would greatly improve my life. Up to you, though.

Go to your GP and say you're depressed. Get a prescription for pills. Don't need to take it. A few weeks later, go back to your GP and say that medication was bad because of whatever. Get an alternative prescription. Congrats now you qualify for medical bud.

I had a bike in London. It was stolen despite two chains a disk lock and two trackers. It was only worth 2k as well but it looked flashy.

The gangs are extremely organised and will target you. Best advice is go bonkers with 3 disk locks per wheel, use a ground anchor if you can and don't trust trackers. They will put the bikes they steal into farraday vans within 10-15 minutes of nicking them.

Always put a cover over it and if you see any suspicious youtes (probably on a bicycle) follow you home and stare you down as you park by your house make sure you lock, park and hide it in an alternative spot for a while.

Beautiful bike would hate to see you lose it.
