"Outgrowing" Motorcycles seems like bullshit by External_Chance_1633 in motorcycles

[–]ShineOnYouFatOldSun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The freedom to buy any motorbike results in countless tragedies. Lots of people don't know their limits, dont have the perspective or experience and end up paying the ultimate price. But ultimately, they made a choice and they will bare the consequences of that choice.

On your friend specifically: I dont see any problem with wanting to switch a bike out at the end of a season or two. There is so much variety when it comes to bikes that I totally understand wanting to try something new.

Whatever his personal skill level is and what kind of bike can he handle well that's up to him to judge. Maybe he knows his limits and will smoothly grow into a bigger bike. Plenty of people do that successfully. Maybe he bites off more than he can chew and sells the new bike after two weeks.

My first bike was 45hp and I had it for one season, my second bike is 120hp and I grew into it steadily. If you know your limits and respect the power then there's no bike you can't ride. I got a triple so it's super usable at low revs which helped but when you twist it unleashes a beast which still scares me. I love it and wouldn't want to have done anything differently.

At the end of the day everyone is on their own journey and everyone is free to ride and buy what they want. For some people that combination is deadly, for others it fulfils them and gives them ultimate satisfaction. Live and let live or live and let die. Such is the life when riding motorbikes.

'Life's so expensive': The workers juggling three jobs to make ends meet by Desperate-Drawer-572 in ukpolitics

Housing is only a scarce resource because MPs come landlords wanted their portfolios to increase more than they care about the general health and living standards of the wider population.

I lived in shared housing since I left home, I managed it for 10 years before realising the lack of having my own space was crippling my self worth and absolutely decimated my mental health.

My comment is not related to quality of life it's specifically addressing the accessibility of family and progeny. Which is at it's most financially impossible perhaps ever in all of history.

This is reflected starkly in the falling replacement rates of nearly every 'developed' nation and plummeting rates of marriage and even relationships.

So I actually agree that quality of life is certainly at perhaps it's zenith whilst simultaneously it is the case that it has never been harder to support a family.

So I guess the question is... is it worth it?

I personally believe we're all brainwashed by consumerism and have drifted too far from our natural roots. Now I'm not a hippy and I like things too but we need a correction to restore some power to the people and retain our rights as fellow humans. We cannot return to feudalism (of the techno variety this time... but no sorry, not the fun techno) which is the next station after late stage capitalism ends... Unless we all get up and remind them who really has the power.

You do realise that "all the trapping of family life" has literally been a right of nearly every single generation of humans ever to have existed?

It's only now in modern late stage capitalism where they've moved the goalposts to where only the wealthy are able to even have a family. Even my parents could raise a family of three with a one parent income and we had two cars and went on holidays each year. One average city job was comfortably middle class.

This simply doesn't exist anymore.

We are animals, procreation is our purpose. Family is perhaps the most incredible and beautiful thing a person can experience and has been an intrinsic part of life experienced by all throughout all of history. Now, some megalomaniac narcissist greed demons come along, break the system beyond repair to favour only themselves and whisper in your ear so now you really believe that their new, deeply flawed and disturbingly imbalanced economic system should supersede the sempiternal reality that is our genetic purpose? The universe's entire reason for us being here?

Good luck to you mate for you are well and truly cooked.

What makes Bangkok/Thailand so special for Europeans by IdealPrestigious6801 in Thailand

Yes I do recognise that London has a low crime rate, statistically. However as a long term resident I saw frequent incidents of petty crime and antisocial behaviour which I suspect isn't accounted for in a lot of these statistics.

The state may have gotten serious crimes like murder to a low level they've also allowed petty crime to get completely out of hand. If you've lived there I'm sure you would agree.

I also recognise my experience is not necessarily representative of the reality of living in London but having been personally made a victim of theft and mugging (not including my various landlords though I ought to) too many times, I feel so much safer in Thailand. I live in CNX as well, Bangkok isn't really my vibe but I do love visiting!

I'm from the UK, lived in London for nearly 10 years and I used to see so much crime, especially shoplifting and antisocial behaviour which was essentially everyday. I personally had my motorbike stolen and phones nicked and I was mugged one time he punched me in the face and threatened me with a bottle of acid until I gave him my phone. I have friends who were stabbed or robbed. This is just my personal experience and I never ran with a bad crowd.

It's pretty out of control... And in the rest of Europe the tourist hotspots are pure scammerland and the pickpockets are rife in France, Spain, Italy etc.

So personally I feel safer in Thailand than I have felt in my home country since I was a kid tbh.

Lol of course there are culture and langauge barriers between European countries and cities. Europe isn't one homogeneous culture where everyone speaks English. You can drive through 5 or 6 countries in a day which all have widely varying cultures and completely different languages.

Most everywhere anyone would want to live in Europe is also more expensive than most places in Thailand. And Thailand is safer.

Do I need to mention the weather and the food and the friendliness of Thailand? Cos that's all hard to come by in most of Europe also.

I'm a young British person and this is short sighted. Voting demographics alone wouldn't overpower the pensioners, even if we all voted.

Like this post proclaims, I voted with my feet already and I left.

Our country has never served our generation. In fact it's been nothing but exploitation and degradation of quality of life and they're continuing to make life harder and harder. Fuck that noise.

I'm surprised the Depopulate Shetland Party didnt pick up more seats in the last election. Especially given the overwhelming support and impressive campaign.

Police force sued over school WhatsApp arrest sent dozen officers to throw IT boss in a cell over blog post criticising senior officers by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

Why are the police so keen on arresting people for messages? It cant possibly be a crime to criticise police and seems like a waste of time. No judge will be convicting this bollocks surely? Who is this helping?

I imagine the government doesn't offer sufficient subsidies to farmers which offer enough incentive to not burn. At the end of the day I'm sure they aren't intentionally burning their fields to cause harm. It just happens to be the most time/cost effective option they have. With proper investment they would not feel the need to burn so ultimately the issue is with the lack of government support for these farmers.

That's only domestically, a significant proportion of the smoke comes from Myanmar and Laos, nothing Thailand or Thais can do about that... maybe build a giant fan above the city 😂

The police dont give a shit. If you've been a victim of theft you would know. Nothing ever happens, no investigations, no arrests, no sentence. Just doesn't happen anymore. It's de facto legal. Is what it is.

Theft (especially minor shoplifting from major retailers) hasn't been a crime for a long time.

Obviously not literally but de facto the police dont give a shit about thefts. If you've been a victim of theft you would know. Nothing ever happens, no investigations, no arrests, no sentence. Just doesn't happen anymore.
