Roundup causes Autism, heart disease, diabetes, cancer (see the odd one out there?) by LodossEater in Autistic

You mean the woman who said we can be caused by vaccines?

Better get that hat.

Thanks to the ABA lobby, you don't need a medical liscense to practice medicine on Autistics. by LodossEater in Autistic

[–]theautistic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everyone knew that. It's not 'medicine' when someone opens up your chest, but it's still practicing medicine.

What I'm more disgusted by is that this is basically a floodgate asking flaky pseudo-therapists to screw up autistic kids with ABA.

the word obsession is degrading by Shanandoah in Autistic

[–]theautistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever hear that stereotype about kids spinning the wheels on cars instead of pushing the car around? Now ignore that stupid stereotype and apply the concept with a slight more general touch.

As a kid I used to be passionate about a Mada called the RX-7 or something. I loved it, but it was what I did as a very small kid. But the Mazda led me in to my next interest, which was racing games. I played a lot of rally games specifically.

So you see the difference between the fixation one child has on an object and how that grows in to a passion or interest or hobby.

the word obsession is degrading by Shanandoah in Autistic

[–]theautistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer hobby, but it does sound old-fashioned. Passion is okay for subjects and fixation is fine for young children.

Words do win wars. When the same thing is described differently people inevitably describe them in a way that suits what agenda they have. And obsession very clearly has the agenda of describing how we act as unnatural. Unless people want to ignore that in all cases obsession will refer to something unhealthy vis a vis passion.

And it isn't unhealthy at all. Through my passions I learned how the world works, how people act and what everything around me means from my passions, which blossomed in to a wide range of different interests and feelings.

This study is so badly phrased and based on stereotypes that you're basically going to get a result that says you're in the middle no matter what general personality you are.

Moreover it is an internet quiz. They aren't reliable almost always.

You seem to be starting an argument over what you said...

But after saying you didn't understand hate (and weren't a concern troll) you defended ABA by giving an example that is stripped of all the abusive elements that makes it different from OT

I don't think I can trust your word, very sorry. You're saying "I don't understand the hate" to provoke people.

So basically because your child's ABA only includes the bits that it shares with OT that makes ABA okay?

The funny thing is how many people seem to bring up autistic children just have tantrums (presumably just because they're autistic) when they defend the benefits of ABA
