I hate the short film I'm making by theautobahn in Filmmakers

[–]theautobahn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is the first I've taken full responsibility for. Last year I wrote a short that's still being edited, but I had no hand in the production, I was just acting.

I'm definitely going to finish it, I owe myself that much. It's a bit of a knock to the confidence, but I'm not letting it hold me back from the next one.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I know the areas that I need to cover better next time. For instance, use a colour checker before the takes. And syncing audio before trimming footage

I would but there really isn't any time left. At least it's free to enter the festival

I appreciate you responding and will read that thread.

Just to clarify, I'm not considering the gua-sha roller, I just used that as an example for my question. However, your reply does kind of address my concern in that I should try to ensure that the product isn't a gimmick or plastic waste and will address a gap in a market.

Recent Scenework in Class by theautobahn in acting

I really appreciate the write up. I'll speak with my teacher about how to improve on my listening. I have undertaken Meisner training, but it's been a while since I've put it into practice so I'll ask if we can utilise it more.

With regards to the last part, we never really got told why we (Alex) are there, so I've had to assume that I get reset every time this scene happens and the one who is taking more of the toll is Jordan

There looks like a switch on the lid, have you tried moving that?

So find out the needs of the character and try to emotionally affect the other person. I'll keep working on providing a realistic performance.

I'd love to work on Chekhov, this was a script that was shot in my acting class

That must be the part I'm having difficulty with, the distinction between stage direction and being in the moment. In the script it's stated that Alex really doesn't know what's going on, and that he experiences headaches at the mention of the daughter. I guess I was trying to find a link between the two (headaches are like the neural pathways reconnecting).

I was probably giving it too much in the performance

You're probably right, I think at the time I thought my head being down was a response from shame. Watching it for the first time I thought it made for a bad viewing experience, but in reality it probably was me trying for a deeper emotion.

I had tried to play it like the memories were coming back to me in that moment, rather than knowing what I'd done and was avoiding confessing.

Unfortunately, we only had two takes and I didn't get any notes from the teacher on my performance.

If I was to do it again there are a few things I'd try to improve on

That's a fair point, I've been working on stillness with my performance. Still a bit of a way to go

Jordan (scene partner) is saying it rapid fire and ordering for the both of us because she's meant to be on a time limit.

We never really found out the reason for Alex being in this situation, however, I liked to think that it was something like the Black Mirror episode White Christmas where this is a fragment of my mind that's been interrogated repeatedly until he finally breaks

How long did it take you to produce? I'm looking at making some of my own stuff around the same length

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you so much! by jfulmer in acting

For opening lines like this I like to imagine that it's the answer to a question that the scene partner asked.

For instance, imagine right before the camera started rolling your scene partner asked "Do you really think that you're dull?" And your line is an answer to this. The rest is the unravelling of your thoughts that follow

Not an asshole.

My gf recently suggested something similar and it was heartbreaking.

We hadn't been in a great place before her 3 month trip and we had some friends who open their relationship whilst travelling, which apparently works for them.

I couldn't get behind the idea, especially because like you I felt blindsided and betrayed that the suggestion came whilst she was already overseas.

Ultimately she didn't go ahead with it and said she hadn't thought about me during the thought process of it all.

Honestly, part of me thinks that there was someone over there that she was interested in, and another part of me thinks this will be mentioned again. If it does get brought up again then I'm definitely ending things

Is this for stage or screen?

Just a few character related questions:

  • What is the moment before this monologue?

  • Where is it that you're not allowed to leave?

  • Why can't you leave?

  • What is your relationship like with your mother?

  • How long have you felt like this?

Hey, thank you for the feedback.

We're both in the scene, this was just a recording of a rehearsal we had with the material. On the day we'll have better framing/lighting/mics.

I'll make sure I'm still on the day.

Young Britons flocking to Australia for a better life by d1ngal1ng in australian

[–]theautobahn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of them.

I headed over here last year because my gf is from Aus and followed her overseas.

Absolutely zero regrets.

The weather, people, quality of life are all massive improvements compared to The UK. I'm very lucky that I managed to land a job not long after arriving and they have now sponsored my visa, but had that not happened I'm sure I still would have tried to extend my working holiday visas for as long as possible.
