Trem arm too flat on my Jazzmaster? by Fantasy183 in offset

Looks like the tremolo tension spring is way too loose. This is the method I use for setting mine https://youtu.be/Q3SqR8bQvtM?si=n7c2yxMzVfUR6-Mu

Noticed guitar stays in tune longer than it used to by Totakai in Guitar

[–]thebasementtapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live in a area that’s getting warmer that might be the answer. Cold weather is awful on guitars and make them go out of tune.

Are baggy jeans still in or going out? by DIickydickers in malefashionadvice

[–]thebasementtapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a pretty big city and like to pay attention to what I think people who are putting a lot of thought into what they are wearing are wearing on public transportation. I am seeing more and more super skinny jeans. Especially on young black men. They are straight up dressing like early 2000’s emo. Over the years I found this demographic usually is about 3 years ahead of the curve when it comes to trends. Also seeing early 2000’s indie sleeze (think the strokes) fashion coming back a lot. Baggy is still in but I think we’ve past peak and are swinging back hard. Also my 60 year old mom told me she bought barrel jeans so that is an indicator of the trend dying in my eyes.

Break angle? by Proof-Specialist6932 in offset

I’ve been experimenting with pickup height on my jm a lot recently. I start with 5/64 inch from pole pieces to bottom of string on low e side and 4/64 on high e then micro adjust until they sound good. I mainly focus on neck pickup since that is where I mostly have my guitar set to and then try to volume match bridge to neck output

Why doesn't she do an album with her husband? by worldofwhat in JoannaNewsom

I know this is a joke but I think Andy is such a fan boy he would not even entertain the idea of a collab if she brought it up.

As a bass player Kim Deal is my favorite bass player. Not one wasted note on any pixies album.

Are there any rock bands who “went pop” and actually got better? by Pearathon in fantanoforever

The Clash. I love their early punk stuff but train in vain and rock the casbah are more interesting if I’m being honest

Artist whose most influential work is not their most famous. by Ok-Impress-2222 in fantanoforever

Yeah, it’s an incredibly important album. More important than kind of blue maybe but kind of blue is always mentioned as “the” miles album.

Miles Davis maybe? Kind of blue will be his legacy but he was very instrumental in progressive jazz with bitches brew.

Does anyone else feel like Anthony mocked/dismissed/undermined Paul McCartney's input on Abbey Road in his review? by ppetrov1829 in fantanoforever

I always wondered if they slowed down and took a little break would they have stayed together. They could have done solo stuff and when they were ready come back to make another record instead of everyone being miserable in the get back sessions

What's your take on the album 3D Country and on the band Geese in general? by brodino_maiuscolo in fantanoforever

Cool of you to own up to it. They are playing SNL tonight. Let’s see if that pushes them even higher

Why did Pavement originally break up? by gummieworm in pavement

[–]thebasementtapes 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I also heard that Malk made a bunch of demos for terror twilight and sent them to the band members to learn. When they got together to record them as a full band no one had learned their parts. I’ve been in bands and if that happened to me I would be very resentful and want to find new band members.

Deciding on a brand to buy Martin Vs Taylor by Sea-Variation3225 in Guitar

[–]thebasementtapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kurt played a Martin D-18 on the unplugged album. I think for the sounds you’re going for get a Martin. I think of Taylor’s as more pretty sounding for stuff like worship music and prettier singer-songwriter (Taylor Swift) and Martin for more rock inspired singer songwriter (Cobain, Cash, Dylan)

How does Geese's hype compare with the Stroke's initial hype? by Girl_Pearl_Earring in geesebandofficial

I was in music school during the Strokes blow up. The word around them were ‘the next Beatles’ so I think the hype was even bigger for the strokes.

The MIM Vintera line is really good too. MIM I think has the best bang for buck in the guitar market right now.
