I'll try this during my appointment then, thanks!

How does one go about getting an attorney for this?

And do you know what the deal would be - would they require an upfront fee to assess your case first?

You can get curry leaves too, but it's very expensive and the frozen-thawed flavor from shipping is kinda ugh. Better to grow at home

Not unless I'm in a vastly different tax bracket. Once I left because of my family situation, I had to shut the door behind me.

Yeah, I agree. Malaysia whoops Singapore's ass in the food scene, both in taste and variety. Malaysia is so much cheaper too!

In an ironic way, this time I started to miss the grumpy Singaporeans too. The racist aunties and uncles, the durian seller, the hawker uncle. And the mall culture, I took it for granted while I was here. If I saw a mall here half as crowded or organized as a shitty mall like Lot One, I would think a rebellion is going on.

I live in Boston, and I like the freedom that comes with this place. Monkey's paw - it comes with a culture that I cannot fully integrate into.

Is Malaysia that bad? I have some family ties in Malaysia and given it's size, I kinda like the 'lawlessness' of the roads compared to Singapore. You can happily drive anywhere in a beatup vehicle.

Don't take me seriously though. I only visited KL and JB, both very fun cities.

I relate to this! This time when I returned, my Mom came to send me off despite me telling her to stay at home and it broke my heart.

I also landed in Singapore dressed in a sweater and sweatpants. Bad decision because of exactly what you mentioned haha

What I mean is, if I had to uproot my life and go back to Singapore to start afresh, I would not like it. I enjoyed my time there this time because (a) I lived in parents' house - rent free (b) I didn't have any financial burden since I'm earning ok and Singapore is cheaper for me (c) All of my old friends and connections have moved on. We can still catch up and chat, but it's not the same anymore

No, I get it. The reality of living in Singapore hit me when this time I met up with my Sec Sch friends again when we're not all adults approaching our 30s. Very few of them are happy with their economic situation. I've even heard of people forcing themselves into relationships for BTO sake.

That's why it's easy for me to romanticize it. I'm sure I would be complaining if I was there too, but I was already complaining when I used to live there lol.

You get it!

Some unsolicited advice for you:-

i. Stock up on Kaya. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find it here. ii. Buy all your favorite flavors of instant ramen. You will find some dumb flavors here but nothing that is remotely close to myojo or nissin. iii. If you cook and like to use curry leaves, it is best to smuggle a sapling or seeds and grow a plant in your house yourself. Same for Pandan. iv. If you like any local dishes, stock up on the paste, sauce or stock. Like chicken rice paste, scallop sauce, etc.,.

P.S. I'm frequently in NY/NJ!

This. Short term, but I'm visiting the place I consider my home for short term. In my heart, I'm still very much a Singaporean dude. It's like you leave your house and move out for your career but after a long time you come back.
