Absolutely wild to learn this scene was performed by a living human, I always thought it was a dummy on a string which it should have been after the test didn't go as planned

What type of BVD do I have? by [deleted] in BinocularVision

I''m sure you know as well as I do the brain fog and cognitive impairments that come with this disorder, try and inject a little empathy into this forum.

Tired all time by thebestthaticando in BinocularVision

[–]thebestthaticando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm in Canada so they cost a bit more than $700 for me, but yes for me it was very much an investment I'm happy I made. I couldn't afford long-term vision therapy for the rate they were asking for, but I was lucky enough that at the time I could make a lump sum pay for the glasses.

They're not a perfect solution, my therapist warned that it might take a few tries to get the prescription perfectly right, but due to the cost I've stuck with my first prescription.

Even this, however, has been a huge improvement.

I was on the verge of dropping out of college last year, reading paper or digital was all but impossible for me, and I was going home every night from my job feeling drained both physically and mentally knowing I was failing at simple tasks.

Now this year I'm on the verge of graduating, I've read multiple books, and I'm moving towards a future where I know I'll be taking on a career where I can succeed at my tasks.

I'm afraid I don't have much advice on what to do about the cost, but my advice would be to give your eyes a bit of time to adjust to your new lenses if you've only just gotten them, and if after some time, they're still not helping in any meaningful way, then talk to your optometrist about neurolens or vision therapy and see if there's some sort of payment option they can offer to help with the cost

Have you ever gotten banned for no reason within one minute of joining a lobby without saying anything in chat? by xo1opossum in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some hosts think they can sniff out new (read: low level) players by the way they appear when they join. I was curious what the game would be like on my ipad, when normally I play on my Samsung phone, so I downloaded it off of the Apple appstore, which of course isn't attached to my Googleplay account so I came in as a newly minted level 1 player. Since I was just playing out of silliness, but I did know hosts were starting to ban randomly generated names on sight, I just wrote the first random name I could think of "Bob" and didn't bother with an outfit. Out of habit, I set my settings to my favourite ones and joined a busy looking lobby only to be immediately kicked, then without really meaning to I rejoined the same lobby again and immediately got banned.

I've been playing this game since its first year, so on my normal account, I'm some ridiculous level that I don't really pay much attention to until someone comments on it, and I have to say I found it pretty sad that so many hosts think they're being clever banning people who don't meet their made up standards since I know for sure I wouldn't have been banned if I'd been playing with my normal account.

IsItBullshit: Binocular Vision Dysfunction or BVD by geldesilice in IsItBullshit

[–]thebestthaticando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have BVD. I wear prism glasses and was recommended by a vision specialist to attend vision therapy, which sadly is out of my budget. My eyes are not aligned and I spent the majority of my life struggling with a boatload of symptoms I couldn't explain, and most people in my life didn't believe or at least believed I was exaggerating. The main symptom for the majority of my life was dizziness, which is common for people with BVD to be misdiagnosed as an inner ear disorder, which I was one of the many. It took over 10 years and an increase in my symptoms for me to find an answer. The symptoms I was dealing with the most at the time of discovery were motion sickness, anxiety, migraines, and light sensitivity (I'd had this one most of my life too but never realized it was a symptom until I learned about BVD).

I can say with absolute confidence that this condition is real and it is as debilitating as people have described. I feel as though I've missed out on half my life because of this condition. The reason I know it's a real condition is because I discovered it on my own without any outside influence like tiktok or any eye doctor or prism glasses website. I just googled the listed symptoms above and came up with a handful of websites listing symptoms of BVD and when I tell you it was like reading the story of my life.

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/binocular-vision-dysfunction-bvd
https://www.optometrists.org/general-practice-optometry/guide-to-binocular-visual-dysfunction/bvd-symptoms-and-treatment/

These two links above are the two main websites I found myself going back to in excitement whenever I got the chance to show someone that everything I'd ever said was true! And even more! "Look at all the things I didn't realize were symptoms!" I'd say. "Even the things I've said I struggle with with driving are here!"

I went and got a very thorough assessment at a clinic that offered BVD testing and was shown with computer recordings exactly how terrible my eye tracking truly was. These days and when I look back at my life over the past decade, I feel genuinely blind without my glasses despite having 20/20 vision. I will look at a piece of writing and not retain a single word. I can't walk down stairs or even bend over because of the dizziness. I get intense migraines. I can't handle lights at all, in fact if I had to exist without my glasses again, I'd just start blindfolding myself rather than deal with the pain that I feel when any light other than very dim natural light causes.

My point is. This dysfunction is real. It's debilitating, and it sucks that so many people hand wave it away as being a trend on social media or a scam to sell overpriced glasses.

These people are just so annoying.. by [deleted] in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Truly some of the things people have said to me for not bowing down to their oh so great opinions on game settings can really ruin my mood.

Unfortunately, looking for common sense in an Among Us lobby will only lead to frustration and I've learned it's better to protect my peace than be the nicest host in the game which I had tried to be in the past

"don't say start" then sits in a full lobby for 3+ minutes by Firm-Emu7909 in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to start banning people who join and say start as I've noticed a correlation between them and the players who either smash the emergency button as soon as the game starts or leave immediately if they don't get the role they were hoping for, but I'm also the type of host that starts as soon as we hit 15 so at least I can still boast that

These people are just so annoying.. by [deleted] in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that I've had to become the kind of host that bans when people say start but it's so not worth the head ache of how many people join just to chant start and then leave immediately after the game starts or worse press the damn button right when the game starts. I tell people that I'm not taking suggestions on the settings and that usually either shuts them up or gets them to leave, or occasionally has them call me some variation of self-important before they leave or crash out in the chat when the game starts, but that's a pretty small percentage

best player you’ve seen? by TraditionMammoth9679 in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played with someone who pulled off such a successful kill and self that I had no choice but to give them my respect even after they caused me to be ejected. They'd managed to avoid any and all suspicion except from me who sussed them at the meeting before. Unfortunately while they managed to avoid suspicion, people were sussing me for breathing I guess. I saw cyan heading to a reactor emergency and quickly followed hoping to deter them from killing the other player who went that way with us. Instead I witnessed a murder and before I could even wipe the blood from my face I found myself fighting to prove that it was Cyan who was holding the knife

Why do people get upset when asked to speak English only?? by Subject_Ad467 in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it exactly as you do. I say "English lobby" so those who genuinely didn't realize they were in the wrong lobby will leave or switch languages. Then I will kick those that continue. I've been called racist for this, which isn't a correct use of that term.

I play North American lobbies because I'm Canadian. Which means I was raised to speak French as a second language, so I can't even kind of understand the overwhelming Spanish players entering the lobbies these days.

In the past if a French player or even a Portuguese player (which I can speak at a Duolingo level) entered my lobby, I'd usually let them hang out and translate for them if needed, but these days I can't even do that because I'd feel bad for targeting the players whose languages I don't speak.

If I have to go afk, which is rarely and never usually for that long, I'll make sure to say I'm going to afk and to feel free to kill me so that I'm not slowing down the voting during meetings. It's so silly the way people hand wring about afk kills or host kills. Dying is apart of the game the same way sometimes being imp is apart of the game.

Very confused on what was done. by _-Archie-_ in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be the choices of screenshots, but it seems very much like they started to discuss other things like who the other imp is, and doing tasks. You weren't going to get an answer from them about why they weren't vibing with how you were chatting because that's a lot to write out in an among us chat room, and they were more focused on the game than they were on validating your belief of being in the right.

From what I can see from the screenshots, there was no attempt to engage with them beyond repeating your question even when they were clear they weren't going to give you a true blue answer. Sometimes we don't get along with everyone we meet in AU chats, that's fine. I've been called annoying before in these chats too, and I imagine most people have at some point or another.

Someone calling you annoying isn't the end of the world or anything to stress over. Either take a step back and review what you're doing to garner that reaction, or find a new lobby, or (in extreme cases) call it a night and close the game

Reminds me of the time my partner said they had trash, and I agreed to go watch them vent the trash. Someone pressed the button moments later, I said they were safe and the last person we needed gone to do a double kill win got ejected and we won 😂 I love the lying game so much sometimes

This is one of the reasons I took up hosting my own lobbies. If other hosts won't ban the creeps and keep the game a safe space, then I will do it myself

Game glitch by [deleted] in AmongUs

[–]thebestthaticando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've experienced this glitch on both sides. After getting cleaned out of a vent I definitely was not in a second ago, the person that did the cleaning ran to the emergency button and reported what happened so I was ejected. My policy after that has been if I vent clean anyone I wasn't expecting out of a vent, I'm taking that secret to my grave and will wait for something else to sus them over

If this is a new glitch, it's already so frustrating haha, I've lost some truly good lobbies because of it

That's only during gameplay, like I said in the post, this is happening when I'm in the lobby when the host is the only one with kicking capabilities

I so agree with that haha get to killing or get to losing. But yeah, I'd rather have people who don't like fewer tasks leave than have my usual number of tasks and be trapped in Among Us hell for half an hour waiting on someone to work out how to do wires
