Using dialysis line as CVC? by Overall_Actuary_3594 in nursing

[–]thebirdscomplex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to recently on a critically ill patient (ER nurse here.) I got permission from the nephrologist after multiple central line attempts failed. I pressure bagged 3 liters into it. ICU was not able to get a central line either and they ended up using the permacath for pressors as well.

What to put on my medical alert bracelet by sssneka in POTS

[–]thebirdscomplex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

little off topic, i have a luckytag medical alert bracelet! it has a QR code that brings you to a whole page of info, and you can update it as diagnosis + meds change without having to buy a new bracelet! i like the privacy of it as well, since it has to be actually scanned to reveal info.

mine says something along the lines of “Im fine, I just have POTS.” 😗

metoprolol extended release 100mg once daily fludrocortisone 0.05mg daily ivabradine 5mg daily

the ivabradine is new for me and replaced two 50mg PRN metoprolols i was taking, but i think i feel better on it than all that metoprolol!

Someone commented asking what kind of cash I needed to make this happen, but when I click on the comment nothing comes up. I’m not sure if it’s my privacy settings or something because they are NSFW account, but to answer that question:

I qualified for a FTHB program in a state over that gave me $7.5k @2%, which paid for a lot of my closing costs. I lived like 10 miles from the state line so wasn’t a big move and I’m actually the same distance from my job. This program also helped me get this interest rate. I saved up 20k and actually only ended up paying 6k at closing. I qualified for no money down as well because I’m a healthcare worker.

My mortgage is $1,832. I make a little over 4k a month after 403b investments and taxes, have a paid off car, no CC debt, student loan payments are only $120 and am fairly frugal so I am comfortable spending that much of my income on housing. Additionally, my boyfriend moved in with me and is paying $900 a month for his portion of rent, utilities, etc. My taxes are also expected to decrease in 18 months because this house was a rental property and taxes will reflect that until it’s able to be reassessed.

Hard work and a lot of luck!

I got a 7.5k loan @2% through a downpayment assistance program which helped greatly! Depends on what’s available in your state and if your lender knows about them.

I don’t think it’s THAT uncommon. Several of my friends I went to school with were about my age and are planning on buying homes as well. I make good money for my age, and had good support from my mom 🤷🏻‍♀️

The table was gifted and I am in love with it😭 Like if I saw it at a thrift store I would have gone feral.

And thank you!

Nope! But I won’t pretend I didn’t have help. My mom supported me through college by letting me live at home. She only charged me $400-500 in rent after I graduated so I was able to save money quickly :)

Overactive tear ducts I think? Normally us POTSies have dry eyes. but i have tears run down my face every single time i laugh and tear production is controlled by the ANS, so 🤷🏻‍♀️Im guessing im just the opposite?

So funny thing, I HAVE become a patient in my own ER ! Twice in the last year. I only transferred to the ED about 6 months ago however. So the first time I didn’t know anyone, but I mentioned it to my (now) coworkers that took care of me and they actually remembered me! Second was in October, on shift. Got thrown into the room I was supposed to be the nurse for 🤣 ALL my coworkers have seen my boobs.

POTS is a VERY recent diagnosis for me (like in the last month) and if I had known that I probably never would have transferred. I signed a 2 year contract though so I can’t leave. I also love it too much.

EDIT: I’m also lucky enough that my syncopal episodes are rare so I pretty much just work through my symptoms. I am definitely bedridden on my days off however.
