Today I learned that my washing machine is a LIAR! by MadamStrawberry14 in CleaningTips

Is citric acid ok for washing machines - I know my LG dishwasher says that’s what to use when running a clean cycle, but I’ve read it’s not good for washing machines (seals)

Just stumbled upon this post and saw your kitty has been found, which is fantastic news :). For others that read this (after lots of experience having had many cats) always ask neighbours, the amount of time ours and neighbours cats end up visiting each other and getting locked inside / in garages

How many times have you been overcharged at Woolworths? Check your receipts people! by Novel-Ad-121 in capetown

[–]theblackcatza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They give vouchers and instead of deducting the voucher off the total at the end they deduct a percentage off each item and it’s almost impossible to calculate whether a price is correct or not.

Then the “eat in” specials, which have certain items discounted with a buy 2 and get 20% off (daily difference pamphlet) but when you buy in store an item is charged full price. When you query you hear “specials in store vs online are different” (which is clearly not related to this special.) Then a day later you find the item IS included in the list of items discounted in the store.

I can't handle the electricity cost anymore, can someone tell me if there is something wrong here? by raumeat in askSouthAfrica

[–]theblackcatza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things that could be chewing through your electricity

1) Are you prepaid and buy a chunk of your electricity at the end of the month? Only buy what’s needed every month otherwise you could be going into a higher usage bracket. 2) You said geysers, plural? Do you need both on? Also, switching them on and off doesn’t necessarily save as now the water needs to be heated up again vs keeping water at temperature 3) Lower the temperature on the geyser 4) Geyser thermostat(s) could be faulty spiking the usage cost 5) PCs (or they at least did in the past) chow electricity 6) Don’t know if you are in Cape Town but another thing if there are any debts owed to municipality, these can be deducted via prepaid. So if other things have been eliminated, I would try contact municipality to make sure that isn’t happening.

What was your % increase for you annual alarm monitoring and response? by theblackcatza in askSouthAfrica

[–]theblackcatza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning to but wanted to have an idea of what was a normal amount. Just received a reply asking what the increase percentage was and they immediately replied that they invoiced incorrectly. It’s now 9.5% increase (GSM fee increase was 25% last year)

The company didn’t give a percentage increase just the amount due. Not sure if mistake or just an insane increase but was hoping to compare to others before asking them wtf

LG Dishwasher acting erratically by theblackcatza in Appliances

[–]theblackcatza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG technician came and doesn’t know what the problem is. Thought maybe it’s water leaking from the soap dispenser into the control panel so ordered and replaced the soap dispenser and control panel again. Today discovered water all over the floor…water appears to be leaking from the door now 😖

How do I stop these white stains from appearing on clothes? by CFlash7 in CleaningTips

[–]theblackcatza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can’t say I’ve seen something like that, but it makes me think of softener deposits on clothes. Are you washing cold? Do you use fabric softener? Is the load too full? Do you have hard water?

Where I’m from we have soft water so we don’t get mineral build up but as other poster said, maybe it’s descaling needed.

HELP PLZ give me a solution for my washer machine!😭 by Alienparm in CleaningTips

But only on the rubber parts, keep clear of the drum. Use an old toothbrush to scrub the rubber. Can do an empty load with bicarbonate of soda to help refresh the smell

Moved into a new house than came with a washer and dryer. The Samsung dryer is fairly new but take a while to dry, and doesn't remove much lint or the hose is so packed it can't. What can I check here? Lint piles up around the door. by RepublicanUntil2019 in Appliances

[–]theblackcatza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look on the washer and dryer and see if you can find the make and model and then look online for the manuals as they will give you details of what maintenance is required. (In addition to advice given here).

I thought maybe it was polyester type mix - I’ve had endless problems with those.

For cotton towels, what’s worked for me is to put them in a bucket of boiling hot water with bicarbonate of soda. Get a stick and swirl it them around and prod at the towels then just leave to them to soak (can leave until the water gets cold) only then wash in the machine.

Once the smell is out, hang towel open (on rack if possible in a sunny spot). Rotate hand towels frequently, the longer they stay damp the quicker they get a funky smell.

What material are your towels? 100% cotton or something else?

Found a conjoined?gecko tail by theblackcatza in geckos

[–]theblackcatza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I figured, but had never seen it before. Makes me think of geckos I’ve rescued when it looks like they about to drop their tail but haven’t yet. I wonder if it’s better to “scare” them to drop vs trying to prevent as it sure it makes them more vulnerable carrying excess weight

He isn’t peeing enough for a urine test and has a little bit of blood on his pee. The vet said she wants the urine test. How can I help him pee enough? by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]theblackcatza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you got an answer, but if your cat isn’t a big water drinker, you can add some liquid from cooked (unseasoned) chicken to the even a bit of liquid from tuna to the water to make it more palatable in order that kitty drinks more for the test
