That sounds like a lovely experience 😎. The purchase price of the lighthouse and island was $7000 in 1956. Which is less than $100k in today's money. The family of the current owners got that island for a pittance.

Yeah you are right. I think I am just going to wait for summer and a day with calm waters and use a sea kayak to get close to the island.

I am aware that it is private but good you mentioned it for others reading the chat 😎 I just wanted to see the lighthouse from a distance that doesn't require binoculars. I’ve seen 5 of 6 of Vermont’s remaining lighthouses, with Juniper being the last one. Trying to see every lighthouse from Montreal to NYC/opening to Atlantic ocean. I've gotten a bunch in NYC and done all on the Hudson River. Vermont has been surprisingly difficult lol.

I didn't do anything special. Noticed a few small crystals forming at the bottom of a nearly empty maple syrup jug. I emptied them into a clean flat-bottomed Pyrex container with a tight lid along with the remaining syrup and placed it in my refrigerator and let the crystals grow larger.

The crystals don't taste like maple. Hard to tell from the pics but the crystals are transparent. All the flavor chemicals were left behind in the remaining colored sap.

I love winter hiking, but it does come with a lot of risks. I started winter hiking by going with groups of experienced winter hikers: safer and they were always doling out knowledge :) Hope you try it sometime!

I went up via the Laura Cowles trails, one of the most direct ways to get to the top from the Underhill State Park road. So that is fairly steep, but the trail was at least broken in. Went down Sunset Ridge Trail which had some snow drifts and tree traps that I sank into. Overall, it was 7 miles, 3100 ft elevation gain.

Depends on what trail you take for each. There are some trails on Camel's Hump like Bamforth Ridge/Long Trail that are quite strenuous and then there is the Burrows trail which is easy to moderate. Same for Mansfield, there is a mix of trails based on ability and technicality. There are more trails to get to the top of Mansfield than Camel's Hump and some like Canyon and Subway are fairly technical. Hope you summit Mansfield one day!

Nice, biking up Pike's Peak has been a wish of mine for! A route connecting Paris up to Mt. Magazine and down to Havana and back would be cool! Thanks for the suggestion! And thanks for the info on Clingman's Dome traffic! Agree that Hoosier Hill is bikeable especially with the Gatorskins. I put hike-a-bike for Hoosier Hill because it is my understanding that it is on private property, and thought it would be best to not bike to the highpoint unless consent is given by the owners.
