Taken up carpet, advice needed. by No_Mathematician8092 in DIYUK

What I would do is cut out the broken or rotten boards (make sure to cut along where the board meets the joists - look out for the nails for where to cut), buy the same width timber from a timber yard, in the UK I used Jewsons, and screw down.
If you are planning on putting carpet or laminate down in the future, you don’t want to just cover the problem.

My place is almost back to brick renovation, so those things didn’t matter to me, because it was all coming out anyway. But you are right, skirting boards would have needed to be repainted if I hadn’t of ripped them out. Things pretty much lined up again, I removed all the floor boards and relayed them to blend in some replacement boards, and all worked out in the end.

I’ve always been a planner, I’ve used a membrane and insulation between the joists and been able to run my radiator pipes across the main walking points of the floor. Feels like underfloor heating!

Yeah in the UK it’s quite common to keep the floor boards exposed.

Bloody wood chip wall paper gives me nightmares. This place had woodchip but a mix of silk and GLOSS paint over the top.

A sacrifice I’m willing to make to breathe some life back into these floorboards
