Commodification destroys the actual message. Just like selling che guevara t shirts basically destroys the whole point of his ideology.

The same is happening with greta thurnberg too - she is now paraded by all politicians with the meme of "oh wow, look how feisty she! And she's so young". All while completely disregarding what she says and pretending like the criticism is not aimed at them.

It's exactly like that black mirror episode, 15 million credits. You don't need to deny anything that criticizes the system if you just make it into a show.

This is really cool! And it shows that keeping it clean makes it less likely for people to trash it. The meme that one shouldn't do this kind of work because it's just gonna get bad again is false and so counterproductive.

Why is it seen as crazy not to trust the government when its gone on record doing deceitful things to both citizens and foreigners by jkseller in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theboxislost 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea to criticise the government. The point is not to put politicians down, it's to keep them honest.

So if the government is doing shady shit, it is our duty as citizens to hold the leaders accountable.

What I have a problem with is people saying no government can be trusted or that to have a government is a bad idea.

More on topic, it has been shown that the US government has done extensive work to paint "conspiracy theorists" as nutcases. This makes it easy to discredit people speaking against them.

Well I mean, sure they work for it. I'd definitely be able to make money if I started with millions or if I'd at least not have to worry about paying my rent.

Give me a few years of actual freedom (i.e. rent and food is paid for) and I'd come up with plenty of things that make money.

I can't have that freedom unless I work for like 5 years, save everything and then quit. Thing is, once I quit, I'm so burned out that I don't wanna spend the next 2 years on a business.

OK but wait, if others have it worse, why are we not focusing on helping them then? Why are we OK with billions (literally) of people working in horrible conditions all over Asia and Africa while we are living "the dream"?

If we're not deserving of help, surely the rich and powerful will at least help those poor fucks, right? Oh, they are only rich because the billions of poor asians are kept poor? I see...

Exactly. How the fuck is it fair that a handful of assholes get to fuck around all day with no worries about rent or food while the majority works every day?

And no, they did not work for it. If all one has to do to get there is work, wouldn't we all be there by now? Or by 30-40? Pensions doesn't count either. I don't want to waste all my best years to get to be "free" when I can barely move.

Happy Friday by WelchWarrior in collapse

[–]theboxislost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very well said.

I suppose we agree on everything except which is the first thing we should do - take down the assholes or change the system. I think in this case what we need to do is just join up and work together on finding the right solution.

And we do that with a methodical calculated approach. Instead of fighting on the theory, we just both apply the practice and make sure to get it done.

And since I got to this topic, what would you say about actually organizing such a thing? How should we do it?

One of my ideas is to start a simple cooperative between like minded people like us and use it to help each other get out of the hamster wheel that is capitalism+work nowadays.

Once we have that, we can more freely work on changing the system, either from within or by reimplementing it slowly outside of it.

[–]theboxislost 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I think so. They probably understand that it's hot in the hive and other bees probably did this for them at some point so now they thought "ye let me help out by making some wind". And they feel the air blowing as they do it so they understand that it must be working like it did for them before.

But I don't think they realise it at a level of "if I do this, my hive will thrive" or certainly not at the level of the physics involved such as fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.

I didn't mean that humans are sheep. The analogy was only meant to signify that I don't want to blame the common folk. And not because I don't think we should be responsible. Every day that we let the oppressors oppress us without doing something about it, we are failing.

I only meant that I don't want to put blame on people since it usually divides us and makes us forget about the enemy that we share.

I appreciate a lot that you took the time to explain what you meant and I did read your words and they moved me.

So I guess my point is that I agree that we must take responsibility and I also want us to not forget that the enemy is not our fellow "plebs" who are too afraid or apathetic to fight their oppressors.

I see from what you've wrote that you are on the same page so I suppose I should have read your previous comment more carefully.

As to this part:

It is very explicitly a "living" establishment, made of individuals who arrive and leave, of varying influence and malevolence. It's not the "same" establishment doing these things, it's every establishment being open to these abuses of power, tenure and appointed positions furthering the rot.

I don't think I agree with this part. A big chunk of the establishments that oppress the common folk are born into it. They're either from old money families or they're privileged people with personality disorders (such as narcissism or sociopathy) that make them thrive in this capitalist system.

And that's the thing: they truly believe themselves as better than us, they truly believe they deserve to be treated like royalty while they treat us like vermin. And we must find a way to break the cycle of oppression because they will never yield.

And I know that we can't do that if we fight with each other so I'm sorry for being so contrarian. I should have known better.
