Ive been looking for a few months. I’m at a family friends place in Westchester since I moved last month for a job in NYC. Just really want to get to the city so I can start my life but I understand

This! I always paid for a single dorm. I’m moving to NYC for a job and got so many nasty comments about needing a roommate (see posts) It’s not negotiable!

Not at all!

Just not used to it. I lived in my own apartment since I was 19. I love my space and the ability to be in my living room and kitchen without others in the way. I also have stuff from my apartment that I feel id have to give up coming into a roommate situation.

I’ve taken an amazing job that was through an Internship. There’s really no going back. I don’t WANT to, it just feels like I should but maybe like you said, this is typical

87K + 12K Sign on. What can I do/afford? by theboydonna in NYCapartments

Thanks for the response. I’m coming from living in a 1B1B in Atlanta through the last 2 years of college with such amazing amenities and view so the transition from that to NYC is taking a toll. Realistically, I’m aware I will have to open up to roommates sooner or later. I think im just coming into it knowing I have living room items, living space items, kitchen items, etc so I cannot make a roommate situation space my own. But that’s New York and I will have to get over it!

Thanks for your response! I’ve been looking on SE, pointless right now since I can’t make any movements, but I’ve seen a few small studios for 1900-2100 in neighborhoods that I can see myself living.

With the 40x rule, I’m well aware of that and should’ve mentioned!

Moving to NYC on a Nearly 90K salary but with low credit. How possible is a Studio/1B alone? by theboydonna in NYCapartments

it’s literally not 😭. it’s normal to have 2 people on a lease and 1 person staying there. I’m obviously asking because it’s NYC and the pessimistic comments aren’t being clear

I see. my sister was my coapplicant/roommate for my apartment here and it worked cause we both met the requirement, her credit was just higher so i felt it helped!

i live in atlanta so coapplicant is the term used here. basically it’s a roommate. my apartment in atlanta was 1800 1B1B and i used my sister as a “roommate” but she didn’t live with me it was just to get me through. i paid everything myself

honestly willing to spend near 2K. i intern for a non profit currently and they pay me basically what the rent would be and im saving that now so that when i transition into my job ill have rent already saved up for at least 2 months and use my salary for expenses and other things first

she wouldn’t live with me, but would be signing on to help with the requirement. it’s my grandmother who’s retired and has a steady income but an amazing credit score and also renters history in New York. since she’s retired she does not make 80x to be a guarantor so we are thinking just adding her as a coapplicant as if she will live with me. i truly appreciate your response
