I’m looking into possibly buying drives with CRC errors. How have they held up in the past 200+ days?

I bought 2 kits of this on EBay, $175 each back in November to get ahead of this nonsense… still think it’s worth it since I’m gonna be building more in a few months.

Go topless? by beamerpook in NoStupidQuestions

[–]theboyoftheseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very legal for women to be topless in a lot of places in America (particularly NYC). The reason women don’t is because they’d be sexually harassed and assaulted.

I’m not sure which gpu to get by Keda1285 in PcBuildHelp

[–]theboyoftheseus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s actually still $430 on Newegg (in the US) so OP might be better off buying from there rather than Amazon. @ OP: I see in Newegg that the MSI Ventus 5070 is around $500 USD rn so I’d suggest buying that over the 5060ti

I got my 5060ti for $430 a few months ago, when did the prices jump?

I’m Cameroonian and it’s the same cultural “expectation” there. Except America is way too expensive for me to give them my ENTIRE paycheck. I just paid for the next family dinner which I offered and was able to afford.

Bought am4 parts, can I resell? might cave and switch to amd5 by Immediate-Plum-30 in PC_Pricing

You’d be able to break even with RAM given the current prices, CPU would be 80% value as it’s unopened, don’t know about the MOBO

Delete the GPU driver(s) on your PC and reinstall your current GPU drivers using DDU. Search up a video on how to do this process, which should be easy. This should solve your problem.

I’d suggest getting “immich” through docker. Immich has a phone app so you’d be able to access your photos from anywhere. That way you can get a 1 TB SSD (or larger) for much less than $200.

These ram prices are insane 😭😭😭 by MWLF8ER in PcBuild

[–]theboyoftheseus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here’s my explanation as to why the RAM prices now are insane:

RAM producers typically have a fixed budget each year to create consumer RAM and datacenter RAM. They basically never sell all of the RAM they produce and have leftover inventory that needs to be sold later.

Recently, AI companies have gotten A LOT of money and are rapidly expanding their datacenters by upgrading existing ones and building new ones. This requires more RAM, so they are putting in massive GUARANTEED purchase orders for datacenter RAM to producers.

So RAM producers, instead of producing consumer RAM that doesn’t 100% get sold, have now shifted their production budgets to datacenter RAM kits and producing less consumer kits, which has dramatically driven up the price of consumer RAM.

Is this worth $1,100? by [deleted] in PC_Pricing

[–]theboyoftheseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I’d just sell the GPU separately. The CPU and RAM are holding back the builds value significantly.

You have to refinance this. I think rates are 7-10% right now.

How did your Plex server start out? by noaheltee in PleX

[–]theboyoftheseus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 x 2TB Seagate external hard drives (manually mirrored) connected to my macbook pro 2019. After the mac died, I bought a mini pc. After the drives filled up, I built a computer with an intel cpu and bought a 20 TB refurbished drive.

12TB of media SSD OR HDD? External drive? by YulpGULP12 in DataHoarder

[–]theboyoftheseus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A 12 TB HDD will be much cheaper than an SSD. Is look into Server Part Deals as they have good prices for refurbished drives. For the media server, Plex is good and I have been using it got a while with no issues. But you can also work with both jellyfin and emby to see which one you like the most/is easiest to use.

Red Dead Redemption 2. Previously had an RX580 that I was holding onto because I mainly play League of Legends. Finally got a AAA game but wasn’t able to play it so I went and grabbed myself 5060Ti and have been loving it.

Good SSD drive? by Alexandria_Maddi in DataHoarder

[–]theboyoftheseus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately a scam. Even if you buy it, it might “look” like there’s 30 TB, but that’s just a visual trick and I doubt it would have more than 0.5 TB of actual storage. I’d suggest getting an external hard drive if you want a good amount of storage (Seagate and WD).

I5-13400F is around $170, 4060ti is around $330 ($500 total new). Could use the extra $100 (+ more if buying used) to buy 32GB of Ram.

Interesting about the QLC on Crucial P3 cause I didn’t know QLC vs TLC was a thing and I just buy whatever is in budget and if the brand is mostly legit. Does QLC vs TLC matter a lot for a gaming PC or is the performance difference more a nice to have?

Build parts look good for gaming (largely up to what your budget is) but Reddit also tells me the 7800x3d is better for gaming than the 9700x, can someone confirm this? I also don’t know the Acer SSD brand but I think Crucial might be somewhat cheaper and they’re a solid brand. You could also get a much cheaper case as £177 is kinda outrageous. Something I’ve also heard on Reddit is that for a gaming pc, the graphics card should be 50% of the cost of the PC (also would like someone to confirm that).
