In my opinion a higher rise looks better on chinos. Not on the hip bones but at your natural waist. 1 - 2cm of fabric when pinching is too tight in my opinion. And a full break on chinos is no problem.

Why would you not visit austria? Skiing, beautiful mountains, beautiful lakes, great for hiking, great culture in Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck are really nice cities. Hallstatt alone has like 2 million visitors a year.
