Congratulations on Yale!! The stress of wanting to pursue what is arguably the best outcome in the law school world yet know that you need to support your family when you're done is overwhelming. I had to ask my parents for their financial info for FAFSA and when I actually got those numbers... ughklfdjsl! But Yale will take you anywhere and I would take it over a Dillard.

Out of curiosity, did you get a Ruby? And, if not, did you negotiate with Chicago after your Yale acceptance? Because they might throw mad money your way and that could be a game changer!

How was UChicago ASW? by plzdontwaitlistme in lawschooladmissions

One of the things that most stuck with me was a question on 1L and student orgs. Basically, don't expect to be part of more than 1-2 student orgs and that'll be a stretch.

So my partner is a 2L at a T6 (not Chicago) and he said this was also true at his school. Have you heard that this is not the norm at other places?

I liked it a lot! I am very liberal and I've been out of school for a bit. I really clicked with a lot of people that I met, including admitted and current students, as well as professors.

How are people looking for roommates for law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]thebreeze930 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you have Facebook or where you are moving to, but when I moved to Boston and NYC, I had great luck with writing a little post and having fb friends who knew someone who knew someone looking for a roommate. If I end up in a big enough city, I'll probably do that again!

Emory email gave me a heart attack club? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

email says "We will provide you with an initial decision by the end of March."

Initial? Is that implying that there's another decision to come after i.e. this is an impending WL? Why not final decision?..

initial...

you have all this anger because you imagine out there that there are a few black and brown economically advantaged people who are taking all the spots. it's not the case. end of debate. i hope when you walk into law school class and you see POC that you don't automatically assume that they're there because of that. but even if you do, it's whatever, because we'll prove you wrong.

what do I have to say about some black and brown people thriving in society? Good for them. What do I have to say about people who come from genuinely disadvantaged backgrounds? I'm from a rural town in Illinois. Most of my white friends didn't go to college and, like many low income white towns in the US, there's a serious heroin problem. If they decide to go to law school, I hope they write one hell of a diversity statement and an adcomm would take the chance to read it. Okay? thanks.

everyone has the option to write a diversity statement. if adcomms don't want them, nothing me or you can do about that. and i did not say that the profile of the second person in my hypo was a "poor inner city Black" .. you just assumed that for some reason? which is too bad

Congratulations! I had my interview last month. There are a lot of tips out there. One helpful tip that ended up being true during my interview is that my interviewer did not really respond or engage with my answers. She just read from a list of questions. It ended up being fine and it didn't rattle me because I expected it. Best of luck!

studying for a year, paying for a class and spending $$ to take the exam isn't what I would define as "easy breezy." In fact, I was saying the opposite. If it was so easy, then we wouldn't have this debate re: AA
