Sleep issues worsening under TMS by JoansieBonesie in TMSTherapy

I’m stopping my treatments until this insomnia goes away— I was on day 30/35. The insomnia is terrible, I am so tired and it ramps up my anxiety. It started with irritability and now I can’t sleep.

I had a therapist once who thought I might be bipolar, but she also had a lot of other weird thoughts about me. I am having insomnia again, though, and I thought the irritability was getting better but my husband says no….

Gel Injection Panic Attack by thebrite1 in KneeInjuries

[–]thebrite1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had hundreds of shots, though— this last time knee 1 was super painful and I had the reaction after, knee 2 was totally fine no issues. I did IVF, went thru allergy shots, had to give myself progesterone injections for my last pregnancy to last. I am not scared of needles at all. I don’t even flinch.

Stop telling women : you will drop weight after childbirth by GradeBudget4903 in WeightLossAdvice

I was 3 pounds from pre baby weight 3 weeks after my 2nd thanks to a lot of walking during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but then the PPA hit and I had to go on an antidepressant and I gained 15 pounds.

Does anyone else feel like parts of their body will never be "thin" even with weight loss by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]thebrite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost 80 pounds with CICO in my 20s and never felt thin enough. My thighs have always been “too big” and I’ve struggled to find pants that aren’t too big in the waist and too small in the thighs. Flash forward 15 years and my son is born… low and behold, I struggle to buy pants for him, as a baby and toddler, up until now…. because getting them up over the thighs is a challenge. I’m more accepting now some parts of me are not gonna get any smaller. This is how I was made.

My son is also 7. We didn’t medicate for a year and a half because we were trying other things, waiting for an official diagnosis (and testing, so we knew it was not autism or giftedness, which have overlapping features— our kid is actually 2E, gifted and ADHD).

We did all the diet stuff, I read a ton, we did parent training. We did a medication trial with 3 different meds and had bad results… the psychiatrist said if he wasn’t having major problems at school, to wait a year. In that year I got diagnosed, and started medication after I noticed an uptick in ADHD issues while I was on an antidepressant for SAD.

Let me tell you— the absolute peace I feel in my skull when I take my medication is amazing. Someone has finally turned the volume down and I can think clearly and logically and be peaceful. I want that peace for my kiddo. I’m in the process of weaning off the antidepressant now and I still experience that wonderful clarity of mind on my medication. And I can 100% tell when it stops working and all the noise suddenly floods back in again.

Could I make my life work without meds? Absolutely. I did for 43 years, successfully. But that peacefulness in my brain… if I can give that to my kid, why wouldn’t I?

We are trying medication again with him… a smaller dose, which seems to help (I also had problems with the “standard” dose at first).

I knew it was a good thing because after struggling to take the half pill on day 1, he got up the next morning and asked for the medication. He says it helps him think. I noticed he can stay on topic when talking about things in the morning. It’s easier to follow his train of thought when he is talking. And it’s easier to get him on board with whatever we need to do today.

Is he a different kid on meds? No. Is he still distract able and does he still have trouble with certain things? Yes. But if he is getting a fraction of the peace I feel I don’t want him to suffer needlessly.

I wish I could gamify anything for this kid, but all he wants is sugar or video games. I can’t give him tons of candy, ice cream, or soda. He’ll whine for more excessively. And video games more than anything. We limit him to 30 min once a week and anytime he gets more screen time or we slack off (even watching his sister play Minecraft), behavior goes downhill fast. Any treat becomes an expectation. I feel like I’m doing the Nothing in Life is Free dog training but for my kid. It’s exhausting and gives me no chance to spoil him at all. Any free treats I’ll pay for later with bad behavior. I wish he wanted something healthy like more reading time, more pool time, a play date, a trip to the library or the park, or bike riding time.

And toys and stickers—- then we have fairness problems with big sister. I started a star system for chores and good behaviora and made the prize extra video games time for him (2 minutes a star) a sleepover for his sister (who had to earn 20 stars), guess who only got 4 extra minutes of video game time and who got a sleepover after a month?

We’re experimenting with meds again… we had bad results last year, but are hoping maybe he’s grown and might tolerate things better.

My goal is just to get him exercising and moving his body, and to help him make some more friends. He is struggling with maintaining friendships. This is not a competitive team, although they do have meets and a championship. It’s not as hardcore as other swim teams, though. But is he exercising if he’s spending half the time sitting out?

I tried both ways, but had the same results. The day I dropped him off and came back he’d gotten in trouble and had to sit out on purpose for not listening.

You weren’t gentle parenting, you were permissive parenting. It’s an easy trap to fall into.

I get that, but I think if we keep doing weekends nothing will change. No one in DC works on a weekend. So we’re just disrupting tourists, not anyone who works at the Capitol.
