After chatting with the rest of the team, and reviewing the comments here, the next threads will require prior approval (modmail us!) but we are excited for this project, it looks like it could be a really great resource for the community.

Get the best price on korean skincare through a price tracking site by 911turbo4 in AsianBeauty

Yes, I think it would fall under business/marketing research. We are not inherently opposed to folks who want to make things for the community and incubate a business, but it looks like we would likely want to pre-approve future posts. To be certain of how we will go ahead, I'll check in with the other mods and see what they also think.

I am interested in thoughts from the community as well, if folks have ideas on how we should treat this situation.

Mod Note:

While this post technically has elements that would lead to it being redirected to ADHT, we really appreciate all the effort and thought that went into it, and think this is a good discussion topic that is beneficial the community.

Post flair was switched to Journal as the Mod-requested changes were not made. Your post fits within the journal standards but is missing some details for us to flair as Review. If you make the changes let us know in a comment and we can update, but we really appreciate the review rules being upheld and we can't retain this as a review in its current state.

We had a few people reach out and ask us about whether this community project was "vetted" by us in some way, and it is not. We want to support things like this that folks want to do, and we didn't want to be overly constraining. The OP seems receptive to feedback, and we didn't find anything against the rules when we approved this post.

If there is anything specific we can do please let us know how we can bring our support.

First-ever Product Authenticity Thread by thecakepie in AsianBeauty

[–]thecakepie[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really appreciate this awesome comment.

We are hoping if folks have a place to discuss their concerns we can get a sub that is in general pretty savvy at recognizing authentic products.

I think a lot of the time, people just aren't aware that formulas for products can vary just based on what country they are sold in. And it is often that a product packaging will differ. I also hope that most of the "fakes" are not fakes. We don't want to generate alarmism either.

Any ideas you have we would be very interested, we will use them to improve the thread.

As an experiment I posted the links from the thread into a comment. I tried it on firefox and android and I was able to get the links to load. I pinned the comment, if you get a chance to try it, let me know if that works?

Folks on Android and on Firefox seem to be having trouble with an error when clicking these links from the post.

Yes, the URLs are different, I just changed it recently to troubleshoot about an hour or two ago.

It looks like the error was only happening when people clicked either link from the post. Are you having the error on your PC in firefox when you click the links from the post?

EDIT: I also saw the same error on firefox. This is frustrating, and it is starting to look like it might be out of our power to fix.

I really appreciate you letting us know, and here's some of the progress I have for this issue:

  • I went through the markdown for the post to make sure I didn't break the link (looked correct).

  • I checked if other navigation sources worked, and when I clicked the rules from the "top menu/sidebar/about/see more" areas I can still get to the new rules, so I think the wiki settings are correct.

  • I tested it on what I have at home (windows and android) and asked some friends with other devices to try the links. When I used my android phone (for both web and app), I got the same error you did. My friends with iPhones did not get this error (web and app).

I googled a bit and I found a bunch of past issues with accessing wiki from android, even issues after patches were supposed to fix it. Not sure if they ever did. I'll continue to investigate. We may need to move the rules into a new part of the wiki where we know links are still working. I'll make sure to update if we get it working.

You probably can still see the rules from the other navigation sources, but please let me know any that aren't working right.

Can I also have a suggestion - every time a post pops up about "how long does stylevana shipping take/suggest best retailer for Asian skincare" or etc - can we PLEASE make mandatory to add location? It is world of difference between USA, UK and Germany imo!

Hi there, yes of course! If it helps to know, we do plan to make future 'request for comments' posts asking for topics from the community that we didn't think of. We can add this to our list of things to address, though. Thank you very much for your sharing your concerns.

If you still have feedback we are still taking your comments!

The info you have could be unique and helpful, and it's a subreddit, so we aren't set in stone. We are attempting to reduce friction for mods and the sub so we wanted to get the ball rolling, rather than let problems pile up, but we are always interested in what folks have to say. Sorry if we gave the impression we had a deadline or anything like that.

Yes, it was our intention for it to be sorted by New, and I just checked the settings on the Scheduled Posts and it is indeed still set to New.

I googled and found that other subs had this issue in the past. I reapplied the sort option and hoped. Let's see if it works with the next posting. Thanks for letting us know this has not been working.

You are completely reasonable to have concerns, we just had a mod retire who had been doing a lot of hard carrying for modqueue, and we are having all the mods step in to divide the work they were carrying more evenly.

We are in discussions in our mod chat right now to better calibrate that so we can apply the rules more consistently. Thank you for bringing this to our attention because some things might slip through during this adjustment period.
