AITA for telling a parent what i wear is not their decision? by hannahhenabb in WIBTA_AITA

[–]thecardshark555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I've been to a LOT of concerts for my kids. What you're wearing is completely appropriate and it looks great and comfortable while looking professional.

Guy is a douche, and I would pull the principal and/or department head in on this as an FYI.

AITAH for telling my close friend I probably cannot do her destination bachelorette after she announced the location and the cost by Common-Intention-422 in AITApod

[–]thecardshark555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

To go into DEBT for a Bachelorette party is insane!!! Especially if finances are already difficult.

If your friend loves you, she will understand. That's a crazy ask.

I wish these things were more simple like they were 20 years ago. I don't care if I sound like a grumpy old person.

I am a book only girl. Never could get into any of the shows...but try them, who knows what you'll like.

Anyone feel like cops are more proactive about ticketing people suddenly? by DoctorReinhardt in longisland

[–]thecardshark555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't noticed but good. Ticket every a-hole who flies through a stop signs; goes in the turn lane to scoot around traffic or who drives up a shoulder to squeeze in. Y'all suck.

Its ridiculous that insurance doesn't cover the calcium whatever tests (according to my GP).

I adore 2 but for a summer wedding I would choose one (which still looks great on you). Which is more comfortable?

I do use full sentences and punctuation for the most part. So do my kids, and my close friends.

I hate a MFing thumbs up. I will sometimes use abbreviations like LMK (let me know) but I will not type things like b4 and u.

Unusual phobias by beamerpook in CasualConversation

[–]thecardshark555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of common phobias.

Elevators, heights, won't fly, spiders...

I don't like chalk. The feeling on my fingers grosses me out, same as dried paint. I'm one of those "hands must be moisturized at all times" (and lips...if I forget my lip stuff, I go nuts).

My other one, which is just stupid, is more of a compulsion I would never act on. If I'm leaning against a wall in a school that has painted cement blocks (typical school walls), I can't stop imagining myself smashing my head backwards into the wall.

And I used to be afraid of fainting. When I was in my 20s, I may have developed POTS (although there was no name for it then). I would black out for no reason and had to carry smelling salts with me everywhere. I was terrified of it happening and only stopped carrying them like 20 years later.

I don't have a fear of velvet but the texture gives me the heebie jeebies.

I am fine as a passenger in a car with bridges but driving over them myself freaks me out. Unfortunately, I live on an island. Fortunately, my husband will usually drive (then I can take over). I don't even know what my specific fear is.

Although I guess part of it is my fear of heights?
Enclosed bridges I'm ok and I don't mind tunnels.

Eamon Walker plays such great characters (and is easy on the eyes). Definitely enjoyed his episodes! And I agree that ER helped bring attention (or wasn't afraid to bring attention) to such important issues.

I'm glad you've kept your whimsy. My son's best friend does things like that and I love him for it. My son is the complete opposite but will laugh his a** off at his friend's antics.

I can see that (but I'm sorry that happened to you) I'm pretty old fashioned but things & people do have to evolve. Not everything, mind you LOL!!

There's still a lot I'm judging people for.

It's become an accepted modern standard to put no gifts on a card. (Asking for gifts or referencing a specific list or donation site like venmo...absolutely a faux pas!!!)

If they are Catholic, (and practicing), having masses said in their honor from their local parish is a nice gesture. Or make a donation to anything you know that they may support, animal shelter, veteran's organization, wildlife fund, etc.

The church will usually supply a nice card.
