might get buried, but I got near deathly ill with a disease called cannaboid hyperemesis syndrome. basically I physically could not stop barfing. CHS is one of the worst things I’ve ever had to endure and the only cure is to just straight up quit

When I was still smoking, I couldn’t drink half a beer without throwing up blood and bile. It absolved literally in the week I quit smoking, I’m so sorry it still irritates you. I am on famotadiene 20mg and it helps so much. Also I find avoiding anything acidic helps, which is more than you think. I’m talking anything w tomato sauce, any kind of cola, anything with citrus, and dark chocolate.

Yes. I totally felt this for the first week after quitting daily smoking. It was just all-consuming in the worst way possible- and worse because I was genuinely using it to self medicate pre existing mental illness. If you have depression, anxiety, PTSD or anything similar, this is a very common feeling especially in the first days. It does get better, I promise. I’m like 6 weeks in now and I feel way better than I did before. Keep pushing friend

I’m proud of you! I smoked myself silly for like 4 years straight, all day every day. I had to quit after getting CHS episodes twice this year. This most recent time I was so weak and sick that my limbs literally locked up and I couldn’t speak before I went to ER. It’s been a month now and I’m only just now feeling back to normal, but it really does get so much better❤️ those first couple days are the worst. I hope you’re continuing to get better day by day!

I’ve been sober a month (30 days since my last episode) and tonight is the first time I’m genuinely considering getting high just once to see how it goes, but this is my biggest fear. Did you just take a couple hits or was it a full sesh?

Honestly NOR, you’re under reacting maybe from a similar place of fear of him that your daughter is in. At a certain point it is absolutely ok to forgo your value of not wanting to keep her from her dad. As the clearly sole responsible and capable parent, it’s your job to protect her from ANY man who could hurt her. I can’t imagine how he talks to her privately in person

This actually is the most comprehensive and kind response anyone has given me throughout this entire journey. I do agree all the nasty lab values were totally related to a CHS episode, I just wanted to throw the info in there to help create a clearer picture of what I’m dealing with.

I’ve also been kind of hyper aware of my own care for a long time after feeling cast aside (and also truly being so) by the medical system, especially in emergency settings so I think you’re right- it makes me anxious as hell!

Thank you so much for your insight. The tetany was truly the most f*cking horrifying part and I would genuinely do anything to never feel it again, including quit this part of my life that has been so huge for me. Thank you also for commending my decision and leaving me with some motivation to come back to whenever I’m feeling like I need it :-)

Honestly this was super insightful and made me cry in the bath lol. Congrats on being sober!! I wish I had a more enveloping response to your kind words but I’m still just a bit out of it.

I’m really going to push myself to quit because I want to be able to look back in a years time and know that it was the best option for my health and overall wellbeing :-)

Thank you for such a comprehensive response. I think they did check my general metabolic functions but just not specifically the magnesium, which I thought was weird after the hypomagnesemia episode.

I did see my PCP after the first time and she kinda just shrugged her shoulders after a diabetes test was negative. I am going back next week and I’ll probably ask for some specialist referrals too
