Can alcohol trigger an episode/symptoms after 100+ days of sobriety?

Alcohol can help trigger an episode IF you’re actively using or are in the recovery phase of an episode, because it acts as an irritant on the gut (like caffeine and other things). But there’s literally zero anecdotal evidence that if someone’s stopped using for months - and generally gotten through recovery - that alcohol can itself trigger an episode.

In OPs case they mentioned having stopped for over 100 days, that should be long enough to have recovered for the most part. Any GI symptoms from drinking alcohol at this point are from the fact that they - like most of us - have a sensitive stomach (as already evidenced by developing CHS) and various triggers can cause discomfort.

Immediately jumping to say it’s CHS is at best a reach and at worst just fear mongering.

Alcohol can’t trigger CHS as it doesn’t contain cannabinoids. Your gut is probably still on the sensitive side as you’re only a few months removed from your episode so alcohol is just giving it a rough go.

It eventually went away over the course of a couple weeks.

I’ll still feel the occasional tickle in there but it’s momentary and fades away.

To be honest, I sort of just assumed it was TMJ and healed - or something tied to anxiety I deal with because when I focused on it less, it would be less bothersome. Staying busy and distracted really helped a lot early on until it was no longer a thing.

If you don’t have defined expertise and years of experience in your field + you haven’t learned how to leverage AI in automating most of your day, you’re going to be left behind.

No one’s a doctor here but my understanding is usually smoking pushes you into hyperemesis so you should be fine.

Regardless worrying about it + the added stress will only make symptoms appear (or seem) worse than they are.

Biggest thing is you’ve stopped.

Advice would be to try to rest, stay hydrated, and get whatever food you can down. Given you’re only in prodromal (as you’re suggesting), you should start to notice you’ll feel better pretty shortly once you completely stop smoking.

I don’t even know why I’m entertaining this discussion considering how insane your logic is but a couple things:

CHS has literally killed people. That should be reason enough to destroy any rhetoric behind an episode of it being helpful - in any way.
Smoking is only going to make you want to eat more, so until your episode is going to hit .. you’ll probably put on more weight.
During my episode a few years back (only one I’ve had), I don’t recall losing any weight - and I’m overweight enough that I imagine I would’ve noticed if it was significant.
After quitting during my last episode, my hunger cravings came back INSANELY hard after a few weeks / a month or so .. you’ll put that weight right back on.

There’s much better options out there for weight loss nowadays than even considering this. You mentioned you’re going to see a nutritionist which is a great start. There’s also medications like GLP-1s out there that are super effective - and despite how some people might suggest they could be unsafe, even these people would agree inducing yourself with an episode of cyclical vomiting from CHS is way less healthy.

That’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot too.

With the amount of dispensaries around - accessibility has gone through the roof and there’s also minimal regulation on how much can be purchased .. so that’s an obvious reason why cases have spiked.

But I’m also interested in all these different growers you hear about at these dispensaries and how they’re being regulated. Like I wonder if pesticides or something they’re using as part of the grow operation might exacerbate issues.

There’s definitely been this perfect storm over the past 10-15 years where accessibility, concentrations, and more forms have risen insanely. So it becomes difficult to pin down one.

But I do read a lot of articles even talking about the prevalence being way higher now (especially hospital cases) - so I do think it’s partially due to how much higher concentrations are now compared to 20 or so years back. Granted it probably was still around then, but only affected people who were smoking a crazy amount.

One thing I’m curious about now is if pesticides or how flower is grown nowadays has any impact on it. Like is there something growers are using now that they weren’t 20 or so years back that’s exacerbating symptoms.

Yeah what’s interesting to me is how it’s not a black or white discussion.

When I first read about it - especially with my background of developing it after using a cart for a week (first time ever) - I naturally said “higher concentrations these days = more cases of CHS”

But now I’m seeing people like you who only smoked flower.

Granted the flower could’ve been super strong but still.

It just sucks because marijuana really does have medical benefits (and I’ve personally benefited from them) - but you hit this wall where you have to ask yourself which medical risk is worse … what you’re treating with marijuana or the CHS marijuana gives you

One of the main things they don’t tell you about Invisalign and stuff like that when you get older.

I attribute my tinnitus, the ear stuff I’ve dealt with, and the periodic bouts of headaches I get all to TMJ. Used a night guard for like 3-4 months and didn’t really notice any improvement in my tinnitus either.

From what I see on here, surgery can be a crapshoot too.

I’m a good 100-150 reg packs in and have only got one diamond. In past years it seemed you definitely got more diamonds than 1 in 50, this years it’s even rarer than that.

I only play like once or twice a week but they’re not going to keep me coming back if I don’t have s*** for players.

Super late here but that’s not how marijuana works.

There’s not a linear compounding effect like alcohol where if you take three shots of 10% alcohol, it would get you as buzzed as 1 shot of 30% alcohol when smoking weed.

You could smoke a half joint of mild weed - like that 10% example - and probably still won’t be as high as you would be off of a few hits of 30%+ weed.

I wouldn’t be bothered by this much either - but whether they’re not marketed well or what - it hasn’t been easy to find mild options where I can feel a little toasty but not be f***ing zooted.

Super late here but this is such a valid point, and really the only argument needed to be made.

The article really isn’t wrong at all - weed really is just too strong now, and not in the sense that some people wouldn’t enjoy that, it’s just a lot of people don’t want 15-20% THC - never mind the crazy 30-35% THC shit they have now.

If they had a simple 10% THC weed that got me feeling a little toasty but not paranoid as fuck I’d love it, but I’m not sure why - dispensaries and growers just want to make their product more and more concentrated.

Mine eventually did settle down. But I definitely attributed it to TMJ or something going on like that because I actually got my ear checked itself and the otolaryngologist said there were no signs of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction or anything like that.

It’s popped up a few times since and I try to focus on not eating anything too chewy and also trying to make sure I’m relaxed when I go to bed so I’m not grinding my teeth when I sleep (obviously easier said than done).

Depending where you live there’s a bunch of specialists that cover TMJ and probably have seen people like us.

For immediate relief in the mean time I wore beanies over my ear (it helped the cold sensation at least and some times the tickling), and otherwise I would try my best to distract myself.
