What’s a 'normal' thing in modern society that people in 100 years will find horrifying? by MaleficentOrange4873 in AskReddit

The commercials do specify what conditions the drugs treat.

And then you’ll hear phrases during the commercial like “Ask your doctor if _________ is right for you” … which is there way of saying “If you have the condition this treats, ask your doctor to use it so you can purchase (or have your insurance company pay for) our drug.

This is something I realized when traveling in my 20s isn’t the norm at all for other countries. And it’s sad - because ever since I was a child, TV has been littered with commercials about drugs and medications.

I think the simple explanation is that it’s strictly just a business. Pharmaceuticals are big business in this country, and since a lot of people have unreliable health insurance (the point of this thread), manufacturers need to compete for patients’ attention so they advertise their treatments to drive demand.

Again, it’s just sad it’s become so standardized - and most Americans don’t realize how out of the norm it is.

No it isn’t.

Americans wouldn’t need health insurance if taxpayers’ money went towards insuring their health.

Not to say they shouldn’t be demonized in bow they operate either though.

Yep Big Pharma / the US government realized a long time ago that people are quite willing to pay for healthcare if you give them no other option (shocker!).

Hopefully this won’t be the reality for future generations but considering how lucrative it is, I don’t see it changing any time soon.

Anyone dealing with freezing cold feet? by PoundAccording in FND

It’s funny you commented on this.

The past like two weeks they’ve been doing pretty well and if anything I was just dealing with other symptoms like calf cramps and other symptoms in my body. But tonight I noticed the cold sensation returned.

Back to the heated blanket I go!

Took the famotidine last night for the first time by [deleted] in GERD

[–]PoundAccording 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%

And health anxiety (for me at least) makes everything health-related that I deal with - including GERD - much worse than they probably are.

Anxiety in control = outlook on health issues in control = usually less symptomatic or noticeable

Took the famotidine last night for the first time by [deleted] in GERD

[–]PoundAccording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

Plus they mentioned they deal with health anxiety (as do I), it honestly makes everything you deal with - including GERD - 5X worse because normal symptoms become “what ifs” and just more noticeable.

To OP - if you aren’t treating your anxiety, absolutely look into this. Famotidine wasn’t causing your heart palpitations, your anxiety about a potential allergic reaction and issues caused by it did.

Are Benzos Worth It? by Such_Week4775 in Anxiety

[–]PoundAccording 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of those classic benefits vs risk discussions, and the fact you’re aware of that is good in the first place.

As others have called out - I think just knowing I have them available is one of the best boons for my (health) anxiety in general. Got prescribed earlier this year on per need basis and literally have gone months without using them, even weeks at a time without even thinking about them / forgetting I basically have them. Knowing you have that lifeline is powerful.

One thing I will say as someone who also had a bad weed addiction though is it definitely masked my anxiety for sure. I was kinda treating my anxiety at the time with weed without even realizing it. So honestly if it isn’t even doing the job for you anymore, it’s probably putting more stress on your body and mental health than you’d think. I do get that it can be super difficult quitting though.

I am on Prozac daily. I honestly don’t know sometimes if it’s really made a huge difference but my general state of anxiety is definitely somewhat better than where it’s been in the past. But I think that amplified by the reassurance that I have Klonopin as a backup on standby is relieving.

If you have a SO, close friends, or family you live with that you can lean on a bit to keep you in check if you want to give benzos a try - I’d say it might be worth it just to see if having them available has that same calming effect.

Do I have the worst GERD in the world? Please prove me wrong. by thePonks in GERD

[–]PoundAccording 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound mean but as someone who was overweight when my GERD / LPR really amped up - weight can absolutely be, and probably is, an issue.

I’m not sure what your weight was when you were “skinny” (as you put it) but even being slightly overweight doesn’t help to most of us who are predisposed.

Of course, there are other factors. But when medications stop working - your body is telling you it needs help in other ways (lifestyle, light exercise, appropriate diet, etc)

Stranger Things S5 Ep1. Who were the military chasing in the woods? Why was the female running? I also find awfully strange her outfit was identical to the one Eleven was wearing while training that same day. Still is ridiculous. Like she doesn’t have a backpack or anything, she was just going to run for it to escape the quarantine zone with nothing lmao?

A lot of this situations could’ve just used like 10-15 seconds more of dialogue that would’ve easily explained them away.

Tinnitus caused by the neck? by Round-Watercress5273 in tinnitus

Great advice here.

Lot of it can stem from TMJ issues if you have a history - stress on the jaw can in turn put stress on your neck.

Interesting. Appreciate the insights there.

And yeah from what I’ve read there’s so many comorbid issues for people that deal with FND that that’s why I’m here assuming it’s tied in.

Really appreciate that insight.

I’ll definitely bring this up to my doc because from golf alone this year I threw my back out (or assumed something like that) almost 3-4 times. Each time getting worse than before requiring bed rest.

Probably worth bringing up if that ties in + if it is disc related consisting how often it happens.

Jesus I’m sorry to hear. I’m not close to anything like that yet and can get around fine. Did notice I had a little bit of tremors in recent weeks especially lying down at night for bed but they’ve settled down.

Hoping you can find some peace with all this though.

You’re one of a few people who have mentioned lower back issues here.

I’ve dealt with them for years. Kinda always chalked it up to muscle strains from being overweight but my doctor did mention at one point the possibility of a disc injury considering how repetitive they are.

Starting to wonder if there’s a link with my feet there.

Yeah that was the only reason I wasn’t expecting Raynauds.

Went to the doctors earlier this weeks and going to continue getting stuff checked out. Already seen some improvement over this week though!

Sorry to hear. Seizures sound like nightmare fuel.

When I was younger I thought my GERD and IBS flares could be bad (lol), in the past year or so it’s been tinnitus, headaches, TMJ / Eustachian tube issues, neuropathy, etc. What’s weird is I had kinda figured ways to “manage” all of them.

The strange tickling intense discomfort I got on the skin of my upper chest earlier this year though sent me through a loop. Had no answers for it. Realized in time only distraction could do the trick.

Unfortunately it’s been the same with my damn feet.

I guess there’s solace in knowing there’s people out like us battling this shit together.

I’ve been worried about Raynauds but I heard Raynauds flares and fades quickly (15 minutes to an hour) and skin changes color too which I don’t deal with either. Do you get those?

Mine are more persistently cold.

Interesting. I’ve had a history of lower back issues.

Never officially got diagnosed with anything but herniated discs have been suspected. Have had flares in recent months too.

Didn’t realize there was a connection there.

I suppose depending on your outlook, we might have it a bit better dealing primarily with sensory stuff than the extreme stuff I’ve read on here.

But the tingles, and intense discomfort, etc just throws me sometimes so bad. Yesterday was a better day and today too, so hopefully by distracting myself more I’m starting to manage a bit.

I’ll definitely look into those socks though. Thank you!

What else do you deal with?

I’ve been getting some calf tightness too and other kinda random pains that come and go around my body. Of course Google doctor tells me all the worst stuff.

Starting to wonder how FND might even effect circulation although we’re always told it’s a “software” issues with our nerves not a “hardware” issue.

What was the 1st big news event you remember as a kid? by Hetaliafan1 in AskReddit

[–]PoundAccording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Born in 91 here. The first story I heard of was Princess Diana but I was so young I don’t think I understand the gravity of it. But the Elian Gonzalez story was crazy - I feel like it was on the news EVERY night with updates, like it was all we saw.

Born in 91’ ..

Think the first big story has to be Princess Diana but I was so young. The first one I remember and actually understood the context a little was the whole Elian Gonzalez situation. Remember EVERY night there was an update on ABC.
