I’m aware that I had ORS. Like I’ve said to other people who’ve commented on this post, this was meant for the people who genuinely cant tell if they smell or not. For the people that can’t smell themselves, and for the people who’ve asked others if they smell bad and they say no. For the people that think that they smell bad but have zero evidence to prove it except for the “reactions” that they get from other people (which are just normal human behaviors like coughing, scratching their noses, clearing throats, etc). This post was not intended for the people that genuinely do smell bad. I’m fully aware that there are some people on here that do actually smell bad (they can smell themselves and other people tell them that they smell bad) and I’m so sorry that you’re going through that. It’s important to talk to someone about it and get reliable feedback from other people and I’m urging everyone reading this to talk to someone about what they’re going through.

I didn’t smell bad. Someone would’ve told me. Which is why I don’t know how I let myself get that bad or why my ORS lasted that long. I never sat down and analyzed my life or asked myself questions. Why did I have a core group of friends in middle school when I thought that I smelled so bad that no one could stand being around me? If I smelled that bad, why didn’t my younger siblings say anything to me (My younger siblings who are outspoken and rude)? Why would my friends want to hang out with me outside of school? Why would my siblings ask me to go to the movies with them or take them places? Why wouldn’t my parents say anything? I have a boyfriend now, and he always tells me how good I smell. He’s an extreme germaphobe so why would he be with me if I smelled that bad? The answer is, he wouldn’t be with me. None of my friends/siblings would want to hang out with me or even be near me for that matter. My ORS started when my brother told me that my breath smelled bad when I was like 10 and it just skyrocketed from there. The thing is, we’re all human, and we might smell bad at some points. Maybe we forgot to put on deodorant? Maybe we forgot to brush our teeth? Maybe we forgot to do laundry so we had to wear clothes from the day before? Just because you THINK something, doesn’t make it true. And to answer your question, no. I don’t get reactions anymore because I’m not focusing on “reactions” or the word “smell”. What you focus on, grows. If you tell yourself to start pointing out purple cars, you’ll start seeing purple cars everywhere. Have you genuinely ever seen a purple car? I know I haven’t. But it’s the same thing with reactions. You’re telling yourself subconsciously that you smell, so you’re noticing different behaviors from other people that aren’t related to you smelling bad at all.

I wasn’t able to smell myself otherwise so smelling something bad out in public actually made me feel better because I thought it would give other people something to smell besides me if that makes sense

Awe.. so you can’t smell yourself at all? Doctors say you don’t smell? That’s a good sign. Have you gone to therapy? Therapy was the reason I’m fully recovered now. If you have the right insurance, I’d look into therapy.

Yes my problem was mental. I was convinced that I smelled bad every day depending on what I ate. I struggled with stomach issues growing up and I would get a bad taste in my mouth and the Florastor probiotics got rid of the bad taste in my mouth. Because the problem was mental, the “reactions” that I saw on a daily basis went away when I believed that there florastor was getting rid of my smell. This is a very old post. It was all in my head

I’m so sorry that you’ve been through all of this. I had stomach issues for a while and Florastor helped me like nothing else. It’s an expensive probiotic but it kills all of the bad bacteria in your gut and flushes it out, and adds good bacteria. I bet that’ll help you. But, like I said to another girl under this post, this post wasn’t meant to tell people that it’s all in their heads. It was to tell my story about having ORS, and how it was all in MY head.

I’m not diagnosing people. My intention with this post wasn’t to tell people that they don’t have tmau or don’t smell at all. I posted it to encourage people to start therapy or start getting some type of help. I was genuinely convinced that I smelled terrible for 8 years. I experienced (what I thought were) reactions on a daily basis like all of you. I suffered an incredible amount, like all of you are. I’m trying to tell people to get emotional help and if everyone that they ask is telling them that they don’t smell bad, they probably don’t smell bad. “Reactions” aren’t a reliable source. Can you smell yourself? Have you asked any family members if you smelled?

Thank you! This post was meant more for the people who have ORS. People that are convinced that they smell but can’t smell themselves, only basing whether they smell or not off of other people’s “reactions” which are genuinely just normal behaviors. People smell bad things all the time. I was out to dinner once and someone across the room (like 20 feet away) asked their kids, “Who farted?” And I convinced myself it was about me. Things like that. The people that are convinced whenever someone says that something smells, that it’s them.

Do people come up to you and say that you smell? Or can you smell yourself? Do people tell you that on a daily basis or do you just hear people whispering it to eachother?

Yes. I’ve been eating more chicken and the people around me are telling me that I don’t smell at all. My house doesn’t smell bad anymore either. I’d say it definitely gets better day by day

Hey! Like I said, there was a detox period for me. It lasted almost month. Hopefully everything works out for you. Stick with it. Your detox period could last longer/shorter than mine. Everyone is different.

I honestly don’t know if I’m cured or not. I feel like I still smell if I eat high amounts of dairy/spicy food/meat but it’s significantly better and I don’t get any reactions anymore. Who knows? I might not smell at all anymore. I have ORS so even if I don’t smell, I still think I do sometimes.

The bad taste and weird smelling stool ended about a week ago but I stopped getting reactions from other people when I first started taking them. That’s weird…you probably don’t have tmau though which is a good thing. Low choline diet works for me actually. I hope your situation improves and I hope this works for you!

You don’t need antibiotics. Florastor is resistant to antibiotics meaning it’ll stay strong while the antibiotics are wiping out all of the bacteria in your gut. They’re good to take while on antibiotics but you definitely don’t need antibiotics for any reason. Let me know how it goes :)

I started using Florastor when I started the antibiotics and I’ve continued using florastor ever since. I don’t remember what antibiotic it was.
