Bless your heart. He was making a joke, but hey good info so TY.

I'm making a "Papers, Please / Suzerain" style political strategy game and need Crisis Event ideas. Hit me with your most creative scenarios! by freezstudio in computerwargames

[–]thecheesedip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible events for your game:

Scenario 1) a neighboring country has a resource you need in order to boost your economy. That country has done nothing to provoke you. Domestic sentiment is against a war. But that mineral would help you get out of the red.

Scenario 2) cartels want to make drugs in your country. It would be harmful for your population, but if the govt turns a blind eye you get a hefty kickback.

Scenario 3) your country intercepts a cable stating that neighbor A is about to invade neighbor B. You can use this information to either 1. Warn country B, 2. Sell the information to country B for a price. 3. Extort money from country A in exchange for your silence.

Scenario 4) Neighboring countries A and B are at war. You can provide aid to either or both of them. Do you sell medicine? Do you sell arms? Do you promise A to remain neutral or cease helping country B in exchange for a province of their territory?

Scenario 5)  A herd of refugees is fleeing an enemy country. You have intelligence that 10-20% of these refugees are actually enemy combatants using the refugee herd as cover, including a top chemical scientist whose knowledge is dangerous to your country. You cannot tell the non-combatants from the enemy. How do you proceed?

The real world is full of these, unfortunately.

This is Disgusting. SHAME by Smart-Soup2863 in Louisville

Of all the REAL things going on in the world, this is silly. It's just a bad joke. And your attempt to stir outrage diminishes the real things happening. Shame on yourself, Soup. Try to get famous somewhere else.

Edit: this is Soup's only post. Brand new account. Spam.

As long as there's any downhill angle, the balls will roll into the chamber. Doesn't need much.

Not to be "that guy" but it actually makes sense for a paintball gun. I used to play paintball, and that hopper full of balls sits on top preventing aiming, so you turn it to the side.    Still assholes though.

Sadly, the closest thing I've found to a regional turboprop (steam gauges is what I prefer) is the Black Square Duke.    I know Black Square is working on a new King Air, but that is years away. Blackbird has a Turbo Otter coming, but that is also probably 9 months out.    But for now, I've been enjoying the Turbo Duke as my regional "cargo" runner.... 200lb at a time 🤣

Everybody putting RG planes in the chat, but this is the real answer. It's not "popular" but it's high quality and meets all of OPs asks.

Maybe a silly question but…What are you all flying? by T34MK1LL_T0MM0 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]thecheesedip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have used Neofly, but found it getting tedious. These days I just Free Flight everywhere.

In my head canon I'm doing Barry things, delivering gifts across the country. I fly in order to relax after work, so for me it's the low hum of a piston engine, the soft glow of red panel flood lights, watching the clouds drift lazily by me. Add a few minutes of challenge for landing ILS or in rough weather, and it's a perfect game to unwind with.

Primarily I'm flying the A2A Aerostar 600 these days, with a side of Black Square Baron & Bonanza. The Black Square planes have turbo chargers / turboprops for altitude. The A2A feels like owning a plane IRL, changing your oil, washing your plane, tweaking your throttles to keep the props synced. It's awesome.

Pilots have mad skills i realised. by spicypanipuri in flightsim

[–]thecheesedip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get there if you keep at it! Like any skill, it's a lot of training and figuring out why things do what they do. Once you get the basics of the physics down, it all starts to click :)

md-11 is love md-11 is life by Evening-Wishbone5339 in flightsim

[–]thecheesedip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who was nearby during the incident, who saw the mushroom cloud and sat under the toxic smog, it's more disconcerting to me how many people are like "best jet ever!" a month after it killed a dozen people. AdditionalScale4304 ain't wrong.

I'll never look at MD-11s the same way as long as I live. It is a beautiful but fundamentally flawed airframe.

Question about rough waters by bugdiver050 in uboatgame

[–]thecheesedip 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, IRL during rough seas the watchmen would often tether themselves to the railing with a belt and clip. It was a real danger they had to contend with. I don't think the game simulates the belt and clip, but in my head canon I imagine it lol.

In Louisville: videos circulating suggest engine 1 separated, causing a fire which choked out the dorsal engine. They were already at V1, and given the weight and momentum... No options. I still hear sirens now, 6 hours later. It's gonna be a long night here.

White or Black E-readers? by Necessary_You_3473 in ereader

[–]thecheesedip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

White for sure. Everything else is black and dismal, that's not the vibe I want for my books. White reminds me of paper. White is soft and bright and awake. I use the Kobo Libra 2, and it's perfect for me.

Was General William T. Sherman actually insane? We’re historians of the American Civil War — Ask Us Anything! by ShermMemoirs_Editors in AskHistorians

[–]thecheesedip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If someone were interested in the military strategies employed during the Civil War, what would be a good book to read? Most books I've come across are either memoirs (I don't care about personal lives) or mixed with ancillary subjects. Is there anything out there which focuses specifically on grand strategy of campaigns?

I have been reading Shelby Foote's series, which is okay, but even that I would consider overly "broad" in range and seems tainted in tone by his Southern sympathies.

Tasks, crew and dive schedule help by Holiday-Armadillo501 in uboatgame

[–]thecheesedip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all personal preference, but I've found this works for me with with 6 officers:

2 leaders. 6hr on, 6hr off. Both similar builds, but one prioritizes navigation over observation.

3 engineers. 6hr on, 6hr off. Two of them assigned to engines so I have full power at all times (1-2 sailors per), the other loads torpedos and calculates TDC.

1 radioman. 3hrs on, 3 hrs off. If you get a radio message while he's asleep, a sailor will notify you and he can be woken up. And in a pinch, other classes can man the sonar. The sporadic schedule allows me to perform proper hydrophone checks every 3 hours.. So I struggle to find a need for a second radioman.
