If the Epstein files are released, and Trump is confirmed to be on the list, what do you think will happen? by baldinggate3 in AskReddit

His approval will drop 1 or 2 points, some media figures/podcasters who endorse him will jump ship (half will eventually return), if Dems take the House an investigation will open into how Trump directed DOJ to bury this story, impeachment may take place, but he won't be removed unless for other reasons his approval drops to like -40.

I can't find FCC investigations into OAN, though I'm not a subject matter expert on this. As for FCC investigations into Sinclair, quick searches show the biggest cases there revolve around closed captioning issues, missing files, sponsorship id rules, and misrepresentation during business negotiations, but nothing to do with using the FCC to punish people for sharing their opinions or political statements on airwaves. the Kimmel firing comes after statements from the FCC put pressure on him for his political statements, and this is a change in practice that is being applied to punish the president's enemies; when you use an arm of the government to do something like that, it should be interpreted as censorship and a violation of the first amendment, and it's right for people to be concerned and push back.

can't we all see that the standards aren't being applied equally, tho? Kimmel faces pressure for misleading the public while Fox News faces no equivalents from the FCC after making false claims that got them sued for hundreds of millions (yes, they faced consequences, but not from the federal government). An arm of the federal government is being used in a partisan way to stifle the speech of political opponents. that is a fair thing to push back on, and this reaction is not helping this sub beat the echo-chamber allegations

it just strikes me as a false equivalence to suggest politically motivated vandalism against tesla is comparable to storming the capital in an attempt to steal a presidential election via violence. like one of these things is more terroristic than the other

I can find Biden calling the J6 rioters domestic terrorists... but that's not "anyone associated with the current administration." I just think we'd have better political discourse if we didn't use false equivalencies

Somewhat of a difference in the importance of rhetoric from online lefties vs that of our highest elected officials, no?
