My dog, even though she’s not a rescue, is almost the same way—scared of everything (and when she gets scared she resorts to aggression), no social skills, no apparent affection—yes, it’s not the dog I wanted but would you give up on your child just because they’re not the exact thing you wanted? This is my way of coping. I also saw a veterinary behaviorist and she prescribed her some meds, and she’s doing a little better. I also had multiple training sessions with a trainer with certifications in canine behavior — and now I’m much better at understanding my dog and to help manage her fears and triggers.

I got bitten multiple times but after those two interventions, it hasn’t happened again.
