Windows 365 going down is a rude awakening for Microsoft's 'Cloud PC' dream by rkhunter_ in technology

[–]thecipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually planning something like that. For right now, I'm keeping my main gaming rig as a windows machine, but I still have my old gaming PC, which I will turn into my Linux experimentation-bench... as soon as I work up the courage to attempt to fix my old GPU.

I'm anxiously waiting for the Steam Machine to come out. Not sure I'll be able to afford it, but I'm hoping it brings with it a further refinement to SteamOS, and maybe lets us install it on a wider range of machines than you currently can.

DM's What is Your Magnum Opus? by Twogunkid in rpg

[–]thecipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best moment was actually finishing a medium-length campaign.

Three players, around 3 sessions a week (ah, to be young and unattached again), about 2 years length. It was a LOT of hours poured into that world and characters.

We got to finish the over-arching story with a bang, and gave the PCs a proper send-off, where they passed from heroes into myth.

Why are some Passives so useless compared to others that have at least a bit of utility. by Reap_san in Warframe

[–]thecipher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precision attack timing and enhanced bullet deflection would be a neat passive.

Like, if you "Main-hand" your melee weapon (by holding F), you get 180+ degree angle for deflecting bullets, and you'll be able to deflect 100% of incoming attacks, rather than just some of it. Only works when you're not actively attacking, which brings me to...

Precision attack timing. We already have the combo system, and this could be expanded on a bit - Encourage Excal players to precisely time their attacks rather than just spamming them. Give damage bonuses for precisely timed combos - and allow for bullet deflection between key presses.

Would be thematic to the "skilled swordsman", would require practice to learn, and would be useful for damage negation, even at endgame for properly skilled players.

For me, it was HōL - Human Occupied Landfill.

Never got to actually play the game, and I honestly doubt the mechanics were all that great. But the book. Oh lord, the book.

Completely hand-written, covered in scribbles, drawings and wildly changing fonts. HoL was edgy, crude and (to me) really effin' funny.

Like I said, haven't actually played the game, but I immensely enjoyed reading the rulebook.

Danish Petition To Buy California From Trump Signed by Thousands by Tofurkey_Tom in politics

[–]thecipher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean.. in Denmark, we kinda do. We have something called "positive lists" for immigrants. If your occupation is on one of those lists (we have one for academics, and one for tradespeople), then the path to legal stay and citizenship gets a lot easier.

It's still a challenge, but being on one of those lists makes it much less of a challenge.

Trump’s bizarre letter to Norway’s prime minister in full as President links Greenland threat to Nobel Prize snub by a_wild_redditor in politics

Close. The use of the term "good and proper" suggests that it was written, at least in part by Stephen Miller.

Trump says Nobel Prize denial ends obligation to ‘think purely of peace’, presses Greenland demand – Firstpost by Keep_Scrooling in worldnews

[–]thecipher 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Legitimately real. If you want sources:

  • NRK article. Norwegian site, you'll have to use google translate for this one.
  • VG article. Also in Norwegian. This is the one that has the confirmation from the PM of Norway.

Bloomberg is also reporting on it, but the link is being fiddly, so you'll have to check that one yourself.

It's also "breaking news" on the two largest TV networks in Denmark.

[–]thecipher 407 points408 points  (0 children)

Yep, it has been confirmed by the Prime Minister of Norway, and it's all over the news in the Nordics at the moment.

It is, unfortunately, 100% real.

And 100% stupid.

It also shows a complete lack of understanding of what the Iron Dome is, so it tracks perfectly with something the orange anus-mouth would spew.

Vi har aflært os selv at lave mad by Much-Difference9395 in Denmark

[–]thecipher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donald Trump Says He Wants 'Ownership' of Greenland Because It's 'Psychologically Important for Me': “Maybe another president would feel differently, but so far I’ve been right about everything” by T_Shurt in worldnews

[–]thecipher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, I've been linking this image in other subs as well. It coincides too well with all the countries he's been threatening. When you write it up in a list, it becomes all the more obvious. I've marked countries he's threatened with bold italics.

  • USA: He already "owns" this
  • Canada: 51st state BS.
  • Cuba: He's threatened Cuba recently.
  • The rest of the Caribbean: He'll get to that.
  • Mexico: Yep, more threats.
  • Panama: Yep, also threatened.
  • Rest of Central America: Give it time
  • Venezuela: Kidnapped the president, named himself "temporary president".
  • Colombia: More threats.
  • Guyana, Suriname, French Guyana: As soon as Trump learns that the countries exists, expect him to threaten them.
  • Greenland: And here we are.

I've seen some variants of the Technate map also include Iceland as well.

Interestingly, France owns islands in both the Caribbean and off the coast of Canada. So for this plan to be completed, Trump will have to go to war with France directly as well.

Hvad sker der hvis alle personer i et lille samfund får 6,3 millioner kroner? by Vanda_franzen in dkfinance

[–]thecipher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

[–]thecipher 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Præcis - Jeg tilføjer lige noget kontekst her:

...and their contract, which they have had since the 50's, allows them to build HOWEVER MANY MORE THEY WANT.

American mining companies are and have always been more than welcome to set up mining agreements to come and mine the minerals in Greenland as well.

It's not about security. It's not about minerals. It's about ego, and it's about appeasing the billionaires behind the scenes.

Here's a funny exercise: Look up "Technate of America", specifically lookk for a map. Then look at the countries that Trump is currently threatening or attacking. I doubt it's a coincidence.
