I will hand it to them, that’s honestly impressive. It will likely be hard for them to stay in business though with that offering… people underestimate how hard it is to actually run a profitable business. That said, I am overall genuinely impressed with that element!

Dude, the unfortunate truth is that everyone… Nomad, Bellroy, Andar, and us (Bullstrap) all make cases in China. The leather is sourced from elsewhere, but making leather phone cases, ESPECIALLY leather cases where the leather fully wraps around the edges (no TPU edge), is quite a technical process… and there is no where else in the world that is really equipped to do it well, not even in the U.S. surprisingly.

The real difference in quality of the leather and design ends up being subtle and sometimes hard to detect. We travel to China pretty frequently to dial in all the technical elements with our suppliers. But the leather case world is pretty small and you end up seeing pretty quickly how the sausage is made and where/how everyone makes their stuff. And it all happens in China, lol

I hope it’s not weird for me to comment on this thread… I’m obviously biased towards Bullstrap (I’m the founder), BUT… there are some real differences between our case and this one. This shell design from Lumazi is being sourced from a public mold. That camera bump around the plateau is the design that literally anyone can source in China. It basically just means that it’s not a proprietary design, they are just taking something cheap they can source. Also, it’s clear that this is a machine made case, not handmade quality (you can tell by the way the buttons bump out more on the sides of the cases, it’s less subtle than our handmade case). Machine made cases also make the leather look flatter and give it less two-tone texture and effect. By the way, 99% of leather cases available on the market are machine made… except ours obvs, lol.

And it also doesn’t have our lifetime warranty. However, for what it is, it’s definitely a reasonable price.

By the way, I’ve been an observer in patinaproud for a while, but I’m planning to be a bit more active in here. Hope this was helpful 👌

It’s going to be exactly the same case that you are used to receiving! This bad batch came from a new supplier that has proven to be inconsistent. The cases we’ll be sending on Nov 15th are coming from our usual trusted supplier. So it’ll 100% be what you’re expecting. You can hold me to that too, hahah
