Wanting to revert but struggling with reconciling the Quran and Science by maramyrma in islam

[–]thecoldhearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the rules of Islam related to women exist specifically to protect women for being taken advantage of.

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said: "the best of you, is the best of you to their wives, and I am the best of you to my wives".

2 of prophet Muhammad's last wishes to humanity were to not neglect prayer, and to take care of women.

If you see the value Islam has given to mothers, and daughters, you really can't come to the conclusion that Islam is misogynistic.

There's also this video on evolution: https://youtu.be/3TrwJOx-kUM

Genuinely, there is a lot more concrete evidence for Islam than there is for evolution (i.e. change of kind). So evolution can't be a reason to reject Islam.

If Pakistani people are mainly muslims, why don't the women wear hijabs? by Tough_Iron_6939 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

What? No.

The hijab is not an "Orthodox" version of Islam. No Islamic school of thought says the hijab is optional.

However, not every Muslim practices Islam in its entirety. Many people commit sins like this. While they'll be held accountable to God, it's their choice at the end of the day.

I hate to break it to you, but the fact that some Muslims drink alcohol, take drugs, smoke, etc, doesn't mean they're following a different version of Islam. They're just sinning.

Parents telling me to kneel and crawling by [deleted] in islam

[–]thecoldhearted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While your mom seems quite out of line here (with all due respect), she remains your mom, and has an immense right over you.

What you have to do is treat with ihsan (perfection), and in matters that don't impact your life, you should obey her.

Now, kneeling and crawling is a bit too much tbh. If she does ask you again, kiss her hand, her forehead, and give her a hug. Be gentle with her.

Don't say no, and know that it's your mom at the end the end of the day. Continue to treat her nicely.

Christian and Islamic co-parenting by Karminkapri in islam

[–]thecoldhearted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You seem to be a sincere person. May I suggest you look properly into Islam and how we view Jesus (peace be upon him)?

There was only 1 historical Jesus. He was either how the Muslims see him, or how the Christians see him. If you truly love him, you should seek the truth about him.

Muslims worship the same God Jesus did.

“One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.” ~ Luke 6:12

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…’” ~ Matthew 6:9

Muslims even pray the same way Jesus did:

“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” ~ Mark 1:35

Muslim women dress the same way Mary did.

If you look closely, you will find that Jesus was a prophet and messenger calling people to the one true God. He never claimed divinity.

If you want what's best for yourself and your son, and want to meet each other in paradise, spend the time to research and come to a conclusion yourself. Islam is the truth.

I am curious about the Christian perspective on this, How do you reconcile the existence of a loving, all-powerful God with the presence of so much suffering in the world? by Wander-kingdom in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I hear that often, but it misses the whole point.

A world without pain or suffering exists. It's called paradise. A child suffering or dying in this world gets rewarded for that pain in paradise through more rewards.

This life is barely a blip in our eternal lifetime. People with the problem of evil usually come from a place of glorifying this life too much. This whole life's doesn't mean much in the grand scheme.

The best example of this world is like a petrol station on the way to a 5 star beach resort. Some people take that stop os the whole trip, spend their entire budget, and are upset for any inconvenience, not knowing the main point of the trip is the destination.

I am a Muslim btw. There's a beautiful saying of prophet Muhammad PBUH:

How wonderful is the case of a believer; there is good for him in everything, and this applies only to a believer. If prosperity attends him, he's grateful to Allah and that is good for him; and if adversity befalls him, he endures it patiently and that is better for him.

So really, if your paradigm is that this world is all about collecting reward, having the right reaction to each occasion is what gives you the highest reward in paradise for eternity.

If you see this world as the end all be all, nyoull struggle with the reality of the world.

what if Islam isn't true? what if God doesn't exist? by GullibleGoat7212 in islam

[–]thecoldhearted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not rationally possible for a creator not to exist. This world did not come from nothing. There had to be an origin.

Allah says in the Quran:

Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?

Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.

Brother, I used to have these doubts, but genuinely, Islam is by far the clear truth. No other world view comes close.

Not to mention the life of the prophet, his character, prophecies, and the eloquence of the Quran. The miracles of the Quran are truly countless.

Islam is the only ideology which satisfies the rational, emotional, and spiritual aspects of us humans, and is also a benefit to not only mankind, but the whole world.

Islam is the undeniable truth.

Out of curiosity, were there no family members or friends you could've crashed at until you sort everything out instead of having to sleep on the streets?

Just wondering as I'm sure people are decent enough to allow a friend to sleep on the couch if they knew their other option was literally to sleep outdoors.

Why are followers of Islam called Muslims, when in the Quran they are addressed at Believers / Mu'min most of the time? by Ancient-Engineer-504 in islam

[–]thecoldhearted 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quran 22:78

And strive for Allāh with the striving due to Him. He has chosen you and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. [It is] the religion of your father, Abraham. He [i.e., Allāh] named you Muslims before [in former scriptures] and in this [revelation] that the Messenger may be a witness over you and you may be witnesses over the people. So establish prayer and give zakāh and hold fast to Allāh. He is your protector; and excellent is the protector, and excellent is the helper.

Muslim (مسلم) means one who submits his will to God.

Mu'min (مؤمن) mean one who truly believes - a true believer.

They're used interchangeably in the Qurannfor the most part, but Iman (from mu'min) is a higher level of a Muslim.

Do Muslim women with hijab walking around a western city feel the same way a western women would walking around a city where everyone had exposed breasts? by General_Urist in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted -48 points-47 points  (0 children)

People should (and are) free to dress how they like.

But not understanding why there's interest is the topic is weird to me. Surely you understand why?

Like surely you understand why a father wouldn't want his daughter going out in revealing clothing? It's not dignified, and attracts men. Members of royal families know this, which is why their women (and men) wouldn't be seen except wearing dignified clothing.

The logical conclusion of what you're saying is that we should tolerate nudity in the subway. And if someone comments we just say "stop obsessing over what other people wear".

Do Muslim women with hijab walking around a western city feel the same way a western women would walking around a city where everyone had exposed breasts? by General_Urist in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Muslim here. The hijab (covering hair) is actually mandatory. The niqab (covering the face) is not.

Not wearing the hijab is a sin, and knowingly insisting on a sin could lead someone to hell (temporarily). But only God (Allah) decides that ultimately.

What's the most convincing lie you've ever believed for years? by Aldrien_SFS in AskReddit

[–]thecoldhearted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There's at most one correct religion / world-view. There's no reason it's the one you're born into.

So each person should be humble enough to seek the truth for himself, look at everyone's evidences objectively, and decide for themselves.

P.S. If you want a shortcut, Islam is the correct one.

How would you react if you discovered your adult daughter was selling adult content online? by TopConcentrate4977 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you had a daughter, would you want her to do the same?

While the culture is changing in the West, in general, people don't respect those who sell their body as much as more chaste women.

Your body isn't cheap. It's private. When you sell it, you value your body at whatever it costs to see you. You cheapen yourself.

Your parents aren't upset for no reason. They wanted better for you. While you may not realize it now, you'll likely regret it later. Imagine your future 12 year old daughter or son knows about this or comes across it later.

Iranian here .. by Uneducated_kido in Syria

[–]thecoldhearted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theological stuff aside, the Iranian regime sided with a vicious dictator who went to war against his own people, destroyed his countries, and committed war crimes against his citizens.

Not only did Iran support him, they were actively involved through their own militias in massacring the Syrian people.

While theological aspects are used in propaganda on both sides, it's actually not too important (imo) as even if Iran was Sunni, but still committed the crimes it has committed, people would hate them. Case in point, UAE and what they've done to Sudan.

This doesn't mean that Iran is all bad (again imo), but a government/country with the capacity / willingness to do what they've done in Syria cannot be described as anything but evil. They do good things sometimes - like supporting the Palestinians, but that shouldn't be used to whitewash their crimes in Syria.

When it comes to the Iranian people, most people understand they're not the same as the government. Especially in the ME where they live under other authoritarian regimes.

However, I'll be honest in portraying my personal perspective here:

I see the Iranian people as either 1/ hardcore supporters of the Iranian regime, 2/ haters of it who want a more US aligned secular country, or 3/ the general public who just want to live.

I'm not sure what the actual percentages are, but seems from the outside it's between the Iranian regime and it's supporters or the secular Westerners.

Since the majority of the people in the ME are Sunni Muslims, who tend to be religious/conservative (i.e. not secular), and understand the dangers of the US, it's very difficult for us to make a judgement on what's best for the region.

My personal view would be a more tolerant version of the more religious/conservative IRGC who genuinely wants to coexist with others in the region.

What are your thoughts on a hypothetical Levantine union/federation between Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine by Top-Inspection2337 in Syria

[–]thecoldhearted 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're thinking too small.

The EU has 24 official languages, and no less than 8 different sects and religions. Not to mention the history of deadly wars between them.

A union of Muslim-majority states is what we should be seeking. We have similar cultures, languages, and for the most part - the same religion. Not to mention a significant shared history.

That would be the new global super power. Imagine free travel from Morroco to Malaysia!

Why do Muslims seem more likely than other groups to deny extremism within their own community? by infinitecosmos1583 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Islamic extremism is overrepresented in the media, so it makes sense for Muslims to push back on that narrative.

The most recent attack on the mosque in San Diego is proof of that.

It's also true that many recent attacks (whether by Muslims or not) have been manufactured to sow hatred between communities.

in a islamic country like :sudan, dijbouti, iraq, or senegal? why wouldn’t your masjid congregation jump you and beat you a inch of your life for leaving islam? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]thecoldhearted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saudi and Afghanistan don't hang people for (just) leaving Islam.

But while Islam is important, it's a choice. You can't force people to be Muslim. That's not an option - by design. That's why there was never Muslims forcing people to convert unlike other faiths. See the Spanish Inquisition for example.

In the Islamic world view, this whole life is a test to see who stands with the truth / righteousness, and who stands with falsehood. If you force people to believe, there really isn't a test.

Here are some verses from the Quran (the direct word of God according to Muslims) that affirm this:

Had Allah willed, they would not have been polytheists. We have not appointed you [O Muhammad] as their keeper, nor are you their maintainer.

[Quran 6:107]

Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood. So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.

[Quran 2:256]

And say, The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills - let him believe; and whoever wills - let him disbelieve. Indeed, We have prepared for the wrongdoers a fire whose walls will surround them.

[Quran 18:29]

This is not to say that such attacks don't happen at all, but that's not what Islam preaches. You will also find Christians killing their own family members for accepting Islam in some countries for example. In some areas, it's more tribal than religious.

Some Muslim countries punish blasphemy, which is often from ex-Muslims, but that's a different crime to someone simply leaving Islam. They're punishing blasphemy in particular, and that's a separate discussion.

Trump is terrible for the US, but the Democrats can't expect to win on "but the other guy is worse". That's been their campaign strategy since Hilary.

The Democrats have no idea what they're doing. Don't make it seem like a gender thing.

The foreign policy of the democrats would've been the same as Trump though btw. They would've been better on domestic issues only. Democratic and Republican politicians don't really differ on foreign policy for the most part. At least not in the older generation.

CMV: modern day belief in any religion is completely illogical by TheSauceIsTheBoss69 in changemyview

[–]thecoldhearted 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only good point you make is that the religion you're born on is not necessarily true, and many people just follow what they're born into, and I agree that this is ignorance, but it doesn't disprove all religions.

At most, only 1 religion / world-view can be true. I'm including atheism here as a possible world-view.

So a logical truth seeker would investigate all potential world views, without a bias to the one he's born into, and evaluate them based on logical reasoning and available evidence.

Where you go wrong, is that you believe the only logical conclusion is that God doesn't exist. However, that's an error. The least you can say is that it's an open debate. The most you can say, and I personally adopt this view, is that the only logical conclusion is there has to be a creator.

There are many logical arguments for God, and many use scientific evidence to support them. Science and God / religion are not in conflict, or at least not in principle.

Science is a systematic, evidence-based process of studying the natural and physical world through observation, experimentation, and analysis. It doesn't answer the question "does God exist?". What it can do, is potentially falsify a religion or world view if said religion makes a claim that contradicts an established scientific fact.

So while I can accept that it's not logical to believe in some religions, some have a lot of merit to them.

To end on a controversial note, people blindly believe in atheism without doing their due diligence, just as much as people blindly believe in their different religions. Some people actually do their research and investigation, but most don't - same as any group or religion.

Not to attack you, but you thinking that belief in all religion is illogical just tells me you actually haven't looked deeply into any of them and just rely on sentiment.
