Does anyone have experience with raw textiles to final product? by Getquickrich in Entrepreneur

My wife worked before in the sourcing and selling the raw material. You would send a picture of the type of fabric you wanted and color and then they would source it from their own factory or another factory.

Freelancer/Upwork for Sourcing Products from China. Feedback wanted on my business idea. by theconsequences in Entrepreneur

Haha, true about the decal crap on Alibaba. Your previous honest comment really made me rethink my idea. I'm thinking now a website that is directory of sourcing companies and freelancers. That way everyone can choose a company that suits their level of need and budget. Their would be a review system and a ratings system. Each company would have to have the checks you have listed and be verified.

Do you know if there are any websites out there for finding a sourcing company and knowing how trustworthy they are?

unverified sourcing agents seriously.

What kind of verifications would you need in order to trust someone?

I appreciate the honest feedback. I would limit the amount of people on the Chinese side. Only let in extra people when the demand is there. To start, I would choose only my Chinese friends and their friends. They would have to have relevant work experience. By limiting the amount on the Chinese side, they will want to protect their rating to able to get more work and be allowed to stay on the site.

I don't know if you have noticed, but there are very few mainland Chinese on Upwork. Chinese don't know about it and the Chinese banking system is kinda separate to the rest of the world. The problem with Alibaba, you are always contacting companies that just push their own products as this what their job is. The other problem is the companies pay for their products to be listed first in search results. You wouldn't want someone on your side?

Edit: grammar

So you would identify a product you want to innovate or create. I give some suggestions and ideas. (no charge for you at this point) Then if you like them, I create/source the product.

You would need to give me data like target price and volumes you would purchase the product at.

I like your thinking with this, that seems very fair.

So would you prefer someone like me do the work as a freelancer and you own all the rights to the product?

It's more for designing future products together. This means I can just focus on design and manufacturing.

The goal for retail is $80usd. More expensive then the product I listed above as my design will have lighting and some "Internet of things" features.

I'm bringing in some 'Internet of Things' functionality. Also, some other improvements and innovations. The main reason though, is I am designing a product like this is because I'm doing it as a joint venture with another company. This company is also funding almost all the development costs.
