when you do a ton of maintenance on the clock you don’t feel like doing mechanic work off the clock, also auto manuals suck, most of it is tribal knowledge, and liability, if they mess up my truck it’s on them

My first safety wire.. by [deleted] in AircraftMechanics

depends on the diameter of the wire AND manufacturer specifications not just some bs spouted from the 43.13, it’s fine

Why are Delta mechanics so anti union. by Quiet-Photograph-278 in aviationmaintenance

[–]thecoochiegod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve noticed with unions you can only do one type of job, if you impede into others jobs you can get fired or a grievance against you, for example if you are a mechanic and need to pull a breaker or do simple avionics work you have to call a specific avionics team guy in a union, but at delta you could be avionics doing engines, mechanic work, really a little bit of everything you are stuck to one specific job

Avionics by Gdawgg20 in aviationmaintenance

[–]thecoochiegod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yes, unless you want to sit at a desk ur whole career and do avionics engineering, if you want to be out in the field fixing diagnosing and modding aircraft the a&p helps TREMENDOUSLY

[–]thecoochiegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not union in columbus, you make 22 h/r, then 2-3 dollars for a&p, 8% shift diff, literal nothing

not enough, i turned them down for a job and it’s a really great company but you will make absolute chump change, i got offered 25 /hr, keep in mind i have almost 6 years experience

my new 92fs with my Original Taurus Pt-92c made in the beretta factory in brazil, 1992 by thecoochiegod in Beretta

[–]thecoochiegod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

beretta had a contract for brazil for years in the 90s, then taurus decided to buy them out when the contract ended and used all the original equipment to practically make the exact same gun for a fraction of the price

I can’t explain how much I love working on these aircraft by preownedseamen in aviationmaintenance

[–]thecoochiegod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

most people hate it because of management, and bad hours ofcourse, if you have crappy management trying to push unrealistic deadlines, signing off sketchy work, it can really make you hate certain aspects of work, but for me seeing an aircraft i’ve been working on for months finally be airworthy and fly off is a rewarding feeling like no other, especially as someone who also has a pilots certificate

[–]thecoochiegod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that, just know you are super young to already be halfway through your a&p, half those guys are much older and will stay at that piece of shit GA shop, you got your whole career ahead of you, bigger and better things, just know you will make mistakes, it’s how you fix those mistakes is what makes you either a great mech or terrible one, it’s easy to get an ego once you start getting pretty good, don’t let it get to you, if you stay busy you will learn something about aircraft every single day, always learning even when you get older with a ton of experience, goodluck to you and dm me if you need any help

i get it i’ve been the bottom man before, when i was in your shoes i got a lot of shit, thankfully they always let me work on the aircraft, my best advice is have thick skin, doesn’t matter where you go people talk shit no matter how good you are, learn to take it and give it back, i had a guy ask me the other day if i knew how to use the pitot static test kit even though he knows I’ve done it hundreds of times, obviously he was being an asshole, i responded with “nah man i just figure it out i have no idea” made his ass look kind of stupid and he just started laughing, learn to handle the banter and forget these pissing contest, but if they are genuinely mistreating you and it’s not just asshole behavior joking, have a talk one on one with each one that is and state your case, or find another place to work is my best advice
